Meet "Breakroom What-If", a weekly five-minute workplace readiness challenge from Floyd County EMA.

Each week, we’ll share a quick scenario and a few questions you can take back to your workplace. No tabletop exercise experience is needed. Just gather a few coworkers, talk it through, and see what questions or small improvements come to mind.

Start with this week’s tornado-warning scenario. What’s one thing your workplace would want to clarify?

As the 2026 harvest season gets fully underway, here are a few farm equipment fire safety tips to keep in mind and put into practice.
We’ve already seen several combine fires this year. In a few cases, equipment-mounted fire extinguishers helped knock down the fires quickly. That’s a great reminder that a little preparation can make a big difference!
And a big thank-you to our local farmers for all the hard work they do to provide for us. Stay safe out there!

Week 4 posting for Preparedness Month 2026:

Get Involved. Prepared communities are built by people who are willing to help. Consider taking a class in CPR, basic first aid, or Stop the Bleed. You can also explore volunteer opportunities with local fire or EMS agencies, the American Red Cross, food pantries, community organizations, or other groups serving Floyd County. Even simple actions, such as checking on neighbors, donating blood, or helping at a community event, can strengthen local connections and make a difference when an emergency occurs.
