Crisp mornings, hot coffee, and a beautiful Charleston view?! What could be better than that!? 🍂☕️

Our friends at Parker Poe Attorneys & Counselors at Law joined us this morning for a litter sweep at Demetre Park. Fueled by caffeine and a whole lot of community spirit, this small but mighty group of women collected 12 pounds of litter, 140 pieces to be exact!

12 pounds might not sound like much, but every piece counts! From soft plastics and rigid plastic fragments to pieces of styrofoam, these materials can break down into microplastics and pollute our beloved waterways.

Thank you to these volunteers for showing up for our community everyday and helping us keep Charleston beautiful today!

Rest in pieces, litter! 🪦

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who showed up and cleaned up Stephen Washington Park last Saturday! 25 volunteers collected 258 pounds of litter, including 188 glass bottles. From picking up trash to putting litter to rest (one tombstone pun at a time 💀), these volunteers brought the Halloween spirit while making our community a little cleaner!

Remember, ghosts are scary, but litter is TERRIFYING! 👻 Don’t forget to keep the good going and help keep our streets clean this spooky season! 🎃

Some Halloween habits deserve to be GHOSTED 👻

From fake spiderwebs that put wildlife at risk to pumpkins that belong in the compost, there are plenty of ways to make spooky season a little less scary for the Lowcountry🕷️

Thank you for helping keep Charleston boo-tiful! 🎃

Fallen leaves aren’t litter, they’re life. 🍂

Undisturbed patches of leaf litter, dead stems, and ground cover form the protective blanket insects, frogs, and pollinators need to Netflix-and-chill through the winter. As these materials decompose, they return nutrients to the soil, improve moisture retention, and support the microorganisms that keep ecosystems healthy.

When we clear every leaf away, we remove food, shelter, and the foundation of the natural cycle that keeps the soil alive.

Let's keep things a little wild this fall. You don’t need to build or buy anything to help overwintering insects. Get a little lazy and leave some leaves behind. Nature's got this, and the planet will high-five you for it. 🌎💚

Level Up:
Save the stems, save the drama, put your feet up, the pruners down, and grab a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Don’t cut canes, stalks, or other standing plant material which may house nesting bees or be providing anchors for overwintering pupae. 🐛

Despite the cloudy skies, we had over 50 volunteers show up Saturday morning for our Johns Island Community Cleanup! Together, we removed at least 110 bags of litter, and several bulk items, totaling approximately 1,750 POUNDS of trash! 🎉

That’s a HUGE impact for the island, and we couldn’t have done it without the incredible people and organizations who helped make this cleanup possible.

A special thank you to:
🌴Adopt - A - Highway & Community Pride Charleston for helping make this cleanup happen and coordinating all trash pickup.
🚓City of Charleston Police Department for helping keep our volunteers safe while we worked along the roads. for helping keep our volunteers safe while we worked along the roads.
🏛️City Councilmember, Jim McBride for Charleston City Council District 3, and County Councilmember, Joe Boykin Charleston County Council, for coming out, cleaning up, and supporting our community.
🍻Low Tide Brewing for coming out and donating free pint cards to our volunteers (21+ only, of course!).
💧Lowes Foods for donating water and snacks to keep our volunteers fueled and hydrated.
And, of course, THANK YOU to every single volunteer who spent their Saturday morning giving back to Johns Island. 💚

It takes a community to make a difference, and Saturday was a pretty amazing example of what we can accomplish when we work together. 1,750 pounds lighter & a whole lot prouder.

If your neighborhood streets or parks are looking like this today, please take a few minutes between rain showers to help remove the harmful litter from the environment. All of this debris will clog up storm drain inlets, causing increased flooding, or will make its way out into our already fragile marine ecosystems.

A few minutes of cleanup will help dramatically!
