Would It Be Crazy To Raise $50,000?

Today is DAF Day, and I want to ask you something honestly: would it be crazy to believe we could raise $50,000 today?

That number has faces behind it. $50,000 gives 25 students a full year of therapy with a Licensed Clinician, right inside their own school.

You've probably seen a few DAF Day emails already this morning, and you might be wondering what makes this one different. That's a reasonable question, so I'll keep this simple. In Charleston County, a single school counselor is often responsible for 567 students, when the recommended ratio is 1 to 250. Through our THRIVE Therapy Program, Licensed Clinicians work inside lower resourced schools during the school day, so students can get care where they already are, at no cost to their families.

If you've set money aside in a donor-advised fund, it seems like you've already decided you want your generosity to matter. Here's where it fits inside today's goal:

Here's what a grant from your DAF makes possible:

$2,000 funds one student's full year of care, one of the 25 we're reaching for today
$5,000 funds two students' full year of care and a head start for a third
$10,000 funds five students' full year of care, one fifth of today's goal

The easiest way to give is the DAFpay button on our donation page, which lets you recommend a grant from your DAF in just a few clicks.
Give Through Your DAF

If you'd rather go through your DAF sponsor's website directly, you'll need:

*If you recommend a grant through your sponsor's site, would you let us know? Those grants can take a few weeks to reach us, and I'd love to count your gift toward today's 25 students and thank you properly.

For some children, play is the first language of healing. 💙

This year, Charleston Hope expanded our Thrive program to serve 3- and 4-year-olds for the first time—bringing child-centered, play-therapy-informed support into the school day.

Our model places licensed therapists inside Title I elementary schools, where children can receive care down the hall at no cost to their families. We also connect therapy with family care coordination and school collaboration, so children are supported not in isolation, but by the adults around them.

Early signs of anxiety, trauma, and depression can appear in the classroom long before a family can navigate waitlists, transportation, insurance, and missed work. By meeting children where they are, we help them feel heard, safe, connected, and ready to participate more fully in school and childhood.

We’re grateful to partner with Memminger, Pepperhill, and Hunley Park as we bring this critical care to more young learners.

What could change when support arrives early?

Last night, we gathered our Board of Directors and key donors to share a glimpse of where Charleston Hope is headed next.

For fourteen years, this community has helped us care for children in a variety of ways. Over the past five years, that work has focused more specifically on bringing accessible mental health care into Title I elementary schools, where children can receive support during the school day and families do not have to carry the burden alone.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us, listened, asked thoughtful questions, and continues to believe that every individual matters. We were also honored to hear from our new Board Chair, Dr. Perkins, for the first time in this role.

There is more to share about this next chapter, and we look forward to sharing it with you soon. 💙

Thank you for showing up for the children and families we serve.

For children, play can be a way to communicate what words cannot yet express.

Puppets, stories, art, and sensory materials can give children a safe, age-appropriate way to explore feelings and experiences with a trusted therapist.

Play therapy-informed support does not ask children to explain everything perfectly. It meets them where they are and helps them feel heard.

Mental health support should fit into a child’s real day.

Charleston Hope places licensed therapists inside Title I elementary schools, so children can receive care during the school day, in a familiar setting, without families having to overcome the added barriers of travel, clinic hours, or cost.

When support is close by, asking for help can feel more possible.

What could change for a girl if we reach her before the crisis?

This year, we’re raising $5,000 to bring Step-In to Memminger Elementary and give a new group of girls a safe place to grow, build healthy relationships, and learn how to navigate hard things.

Last year, Step-In grew from 13 girls at one school to 45 girls across three schools. And the impact is showing: girls who said they feel like they belong in Step-In increased from 83% to 100%.

But above all the numbers, there are stories that remind us why this matters.

One girl used her journal to share something she couldn’t say out loud. Because she had a trusted space to share, we were able to connect her with the support she needed.

We believe in meeting girls before the crisis.

Help us bring Step-In to Memminger Elementary.
