Happy 251st birthday to the United States Navy!

On Oct. 13, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized two armed vessels, laying the foundation for the United States Navy.

For 251 years, generations of Sailors have answered our nation’s call to service, defending our freedom and serving as the shield of the Republic.

From the laying of USS Constitution’s keel, to today’s modern fleet, everything our Navy does is viewed through a warfighting lens, ensuring we remain ready to deliver decisive combat power whenever and wherever our nation calls.

As the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat, USS Constitution and her crew proudly celebrate our Navy’s rich heritage and honor the generations of Sailors who have served our nation, along with those standing the watch around the world today.

We are the most powerful navy in the world.

Remembering our fallen shipmates from the USS Cole attack.

On Oct. 12, 2000, 17 Sailors lost their lives when terrorists attacked USS Cole (DDG 67) while the ship refueled in Aden, Yemen.

Twenty-six years later, USS Constitution and her crew honor those Sailors, their families and the crew members whose courage carried Cole through the attack and its aftermath.

Constitution’s crew galley bears the name of former crew member Mess Management Specialist 3rd Class Ronchester Santiago, who lost his life while serving aboard USS Cole during the attack.

We will never forget.
