Take a haunted history tour at Rosedale Several times a year, Historic Rosedale hosts one of its most popular events, Haunted History Tours led by the Charlotte Area Paranormal Society.

Our Haunted History Tours for August and September SOLD OUT in less than 48 hours. Thank you Charlotte, we love you too!

We are happy to announce that our Gardens and Grounds will now be open for your enjoyment. There are restrictions: please see the notes below:

Gardens/Grounds will be open by phone reservation only. You must call 704-335-0325 to make a reservation and gain access to the grounds.

Grounds open: Tuesday - Friday, 11:00 - 2:00 (gates close at 3:00). We will be closed Saturday - Monday.

There is a $5 plus tax admission fee.

While on site, we ask that you practice safe social distancing. Mask are recommended. Hand Sanitizer will be available. Our restroom facilities will be open at 50% capacity. No more than 20 visitors will be allowed on property at one time.

At this time, our historic 1815 house and recreated blacksmith shop are closed to the public. We hope to reopen them soon.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Charlotte's most unique urban green space.

We were saddened to learn that last week the Queen City lost an icon. We were honored to count Sarah Belk Gambrell as one of our long time supporters and an important member of our Board of Directors. Our thoughts go out to her family at this difficult time.

We have a TV Star in our midst! Resident Blacksmith Jason Blanchett was interviewed by WTVI for their program Trail of History. Trail of History explores the historic figures and events that have influenced the Charlotte region. Jason will appear in an episode, airing this fall, which focuses on individuals skilled in crafts from bygone eras. Jason is the owner of Iron Giant Fabrication and Welding and has instructed at American College of the Building Arts. We are so lucky to have Jason as part of the Historic Rosedale team.

Our garden volunteers have done a wonderful job maintaining Historic Rosedale's gardens over the past few months during the COVID-19 shutdown, but with several acres of gardens, it's a task that needs as much help as possible! If you are interested in spending a morning or two outdoors helping maintain 9 acres of our urban greenspace and historic site, please contact [email protected] or call 704-335-0325.

Have Father's Day to "Dads" everywhere. Our own Dr. David Caldwell had nine children: Four sons and four daughters with his first wife Harriet and a daughter with his second wife Adeline.

Historic Rosedale’s doors are back in place! Thanks to Paul Tickle Restoration & Painting for a fantastic job restoring our doors to their former glory! This restoration was made possible by the generous gift of one of our special donors.

If these doors look unique, that’s because they are! Archibald Frew was a wealthy man who spent a fortune building his grand house at Rosedale while living in a village of simple log dwellings (hence the nickname “Frew’s Folly”). But, his extravagance inside the house is a deception once you enter through a door that has been ‘faux-grained’. Faux-graining is a highly skilled technique in which artists paint wood from common trees to look like a much more expensive and exotic wood. This gave everyone who passed by Frew’s house the illusion that he imported South American mahogany!
