Next week, September 23-28 is the Charlotte Film Festival is returning to the Independent Picture House.
The festival will show documentaries, shorts, animated pictures, narrative films, and other films with a variety of themes. The film festival has always promoted films with progressive themes, including the Charlotte refugee community. This year will be no exception.

Did you know? The Welcoming Week 2025 begins this week!

Welcoming Week is a global campaign to celebrate and welcome diversity and inclusion, especially as it relates to immigrants. Charlotte was the first city in North Carolina to receive the Certified Welcoming City designation from Welcoming America

CRRA and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library are holding a film screening event during Welcoming Week, on Sept. 16th. In addition to the film screening and discussion, there will be a former refugee from Syria sharing his experiences and some light Syrian refreshments!

Attendance is free, but please register to help us with the food quantities!

Introducing our Community Partner for Jaja's African Hair Braiding: Carolina Refugee Resettlement Agency!

Carolina Refugee Resettlement Agency works to receive, to connect and to empower newly arrived refugees in the Charlotte area so that they begin successful and self-sufficient lives in the United States.

The women in Jaja's salon mostly come from West African nations. They've immigrated to the United States through various pathways. Over 17,000 refugees have resettled in Charlotte, North Carolina since the 1990's.

We cannot wait to share more with you about their work and how you can get involved! Go give their page a like!

It’s that time of year again - CRRA is accepting winter coats and jackets of all sizes! If you have coats that your kids have grown out of, or you just have an extra jacket laying around, please consider donating to CRRA for a refugee to have a warm winter coat! ❄️🧥🎁

June 20th is World Refugee Day, a day to celebrate and honor those who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or violence. World Refugee Day is a way to highlight refugees and recognize their rights, needs, and dreams - and to bring support to their cause.

CRRA, together with , celebrated World Refugee Day this year by holding an Economic Empowerment Fair to showcase refugee and immigrant small business success! Thank you to all of the amazing partner organizations and small businesses who came to celebrate with us!

Exciting news! CRRA and are teaming up to celebrate World Refugee Day - by highlighting the local refugee and immigrant populations’ success! Join us on Saturday, June 15 from 10am-2pm for an Economic Empowerment Fair located at Project 658, featuring a bazaar style marketplace, small business seminars, and resources from partner organizations. Not to mention the food and bouncy house! We’d love to see you all there, come one and all!
