Here are the key highlights from the October 20, 2026 Cleveland County Board of Commissioners meeting:

✅ Special Presentations: Dr. Richard Ho**er gave a presentation regarding Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week 2026. Julie Crotts, Veterans Services Supervisor, gave presentations on various upcoming events for and supporting our veterans.

✅ Consent Agenda Approved: The Board of Commissioners approved the consent agenda in a single motion. It included budget amendments, resolutions & reports, and a request for a future Planning & Zoning hearing.

✅ Rezoning Cases: Planning Director Chris Martin gave presentations on 4 rezoning cases and a text amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance. 3 of 4 rezoning cases and the text amendment were approved by the Board of Commissioners.

✅ County Manager Updates: County Manager David Cotton presented updates for the new Justice Center and the third-party audit process for FY 2025-2026. The county is on track to meet all deadlines in these processes.

Early voting is now open through October 31st in Cleveland County!

Registered voters may vote at any of the county’s three early voting locations, so choose the site that works best for you.

🔷 Early Voting Hours:
Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Closed Sunday

Eligible residents who are not yet registered may register and vote on the same day during the early voting period.

We encourage all residents to make a plan to vote and make their voices heard!

Don’t miss the NC State Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Cleveland County Fall Plant Sale this Saturday at the Extension Auditorium from 8 AM to 11 AM! 🍂

One week from today is our Fall Plant Sale with Garden Shed, Food Truck (Little Annie Waffles), Local Honey, some other vendors, plus lots of small trees, small shrubs (Purple Beautyberry), bulbs (daffodils), houseplants, native plants and much more. These are plants that have been transplanted, grown from seed, etc and cared for by NC State Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Cleveland County.

October 24th 8am - 11am
Cleveland Co. Extension Office, 130 South Post Rd, Shelby, NC
Cash, checks, debit and credit cards accepted
All proceeds to the Dotty Leatherwood Botanical Gardens

Our 2026 Health & Benefits Fair was a big success! 💙 🎉

Every year, the county hosts this event to help our team stay healthy and get the most out of their benefits. Over two days, our full-time employees met with benefits providers, received health screenings and flu vaccinations, and learned about the resources available to them.
