Sign & Thrive Podcast Episode: Why Estate Signings Are the Future of the Notary Business 02/25/2026

It was indeed a pleasure to sit down with my own mentor Bill Soroka of the Sign & Thrive pocast (linked below) to discuss not just my own estate notary signing service, but also my recent book. If you are a notary wondering about the nuances of estate signings and if they are worth looking into, this podcast may very well be the sign you've been looking for.

Blue Flame Legacy 10/24/2025

I am excited to introduce Apex Specialty Services!

I am excited to share the launch of Apex Specialty Services, a new lineup of professional offerings designed specifically for Notaries Public who want to build their brand, strengthen their online presence, and elevate their marketing materials.

With over a decade of experience in web design and graphics, I have worked as an instructor, a small business owner serving other entrepreneurs, and a collaborative partner with Legacy Vault for the last two years.

These experiences have helped me understand the unique challenges small business owners face when it comes to standing out in a competitive market. Apex Specialty Services was created to provide notaries with practical, creative, and effective solutions.

These paid services include:

• Website Design: Custom GoDaddy-hosted sites built to highlight your services and attract local clients,
• Logo Design & Branding Kits: Professional, custom logos with complete color branding kits for consistency,
• Marketing Materials: Business cards, fliers, brochures, trifolds, banners, and custom social media graphics,
• Consulting & Review: Personalized feedback and strategy sessions to refine your website, marketing materials, and outreach efforts.

All these services are affordable and cost far less than what marketing firms or agencies typically charge.

One notary recently shared, “designed my website JohnsNotarySLC.com which exceeded my expectation and my logo as well, which is absolutely out of this world.” (Rodney Johns)

Another, Lisa Sawoya said “Thank you Dean for my new website! We all know our leader and mentor is a total rockstar, but he just took it to the next level with my new Legacy Vault website. He is a master, patient, and provides incredible suggestions and insight for a ridiculously low price. Value on steroids!! Thanks Dean, I SO appreciate you! (blueflamelegacy.com)”

My entire goal in extending these services in the Apex Community and abroad is to help notaries look as professional online as they are in person, building cohesive identities that attract and retain clients.

Estate Planning Awareness Month & LGBTQ History Month: Oversights 10/13/2025

October is both LGBTQ History Month and Estate Planning Awareness Month. The overlap is fitting because few areas show the importance of equality and clarity more than estate planning. Even with the progress of marriage equality and anti-discrimination laws, many LGBTQ individuals and couples still face unique challenges when their wishes are not documented or kept current.

This article highlights the most common oversights that appear in estate planning for LGBTQ clients and why notaries, planners, and individuals should stay proactive in addressing them.

The Clan Makes a Plan

By Dean Eason-Williams

A whimsical Seuss-like rhyming tale about a busy family who learns that planning ahead isn’t scary, it’s smart, simple, and full of peace of mind. This is a reminder that October is Estate Planning Awareness Month. Ask me how to get started with your Trust or Estate planning process!

_______________________

In a house on the corner lived four in a clan,
Who’d rather eat pancakes than ever make plans.
They’d juggle and giggle from morning till night,
But talk about planning? Oh, that gave them fright.

“We’ll plan when we’re older!” said Dad with a grin.
“We’ll plan when we’re wiser!” said Mom chiming in.
The kids didn’t care, they just danced in the hall,
Till Grandma declared, “You’ve no plan at all!”

Then one windy Tuesday with thunder and rain,
The power went out, so they couldn’t complain.
They sat at the table with candles aflame,
And Mom softly said, “Let’s play a new game.”

“Let’s plan for our house, our cat, and our car.
Our savings, our wishes, our cookies in jars.
Let’s write who gets what, if someday we’re gone.”
Dad blinked and then yawned, “Well, maybe just one.”

They called up a helper, a Notary too,
Who said, “I can show you exactly what to do.”
They learned about wills and powers and such,
And laughed that they’d feared it was ever too much.

They signed on the line, they sealed every page,
They felt quite important, a bit like on stage.
The kids drew some hearts, the cat took a nap,
And Dad gave the papers a satisfied tap.

Now peace fills their house, it hums like a tune,
No worry at breakfast, no dread before noon.
Their ducks are in rows, their socks even match,
Their future secure with a tidy latch.

So if you’ve got family, or even a pet,
And you haven’t planned anything simple yet,
Take notes from this clan, while you still can.
Life runs much smoother when you’ve made your plan!

Court orders SF notary to pay $600K for 'predatory immigration consulting business' 10/06/2025

This is why Notaries Public must include disclaimers on all websites and marketing materials, and adhere strictly to their notary role, avoiding unauthorized practice of law at all times. This case illustrates the consequences of a Notary Public allegedly overstepping their authority, resulting in a $600,000 penalty. Fellow notaries, please refrain from engaging in legal practices reserved for licensed attorneys or other authorized professionals. Exercise caution and discretion in your role, and maintain the dignity and integrity of the notary profession. It is essential to remain above board and avoid any unauthorized activities at all costs.
