Today, Station 7C was honored by a surprise visit from 91-year-old retired member. Engineer Banks Williams and his family. Engineer Williams was assigned to Station 7 for 20 years during the 1970s and 1980s and retired from the Charlotte Fire Department in 1987.
He was escorted to the station by retired Captain Darren Macintosh in Charlotte’s 1971 Seagrave engine, part of our antique fleet. During his visit, Engineer Williams shared stories about the old North Davidson area, the history of the fire station, and the jail that was once located behind it. The former jail space now serves as our day room. He also recalled removing the jail doors himself when the space was converted for station use.
At our request, Medic sent an ambulance to the station and allowed us to use a stair chair so Engineer Williams could safely access the upstairs and tour the station that he once drove Engine 7 to many fires and had a vast amount of memories.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Engineer Williams for the surprise visit and for sharing his knowledge and history with us.

We need to fill up our collection barrels with school supplies. Charlotte Fire is partnering with WSOC-TV and Classroom Central. Through August 31, firehouses will be collection points where the community can donate NEW school supplies for children in our area. For many families, purchasing school supplies for the upcoming school year can be a huge financial burden. These donated school supply items will be a great relief for kids who struggle to have the tools they need to succeed in class. The school supplies will be distributed free by Classroom Central.

It is with a heavy heart we share with you the passing of CMPD K-9 Officer Brent Simpson. We pray for the family of Officer Simpson and his brothers and sisters of CMPD during this tragic time. The profession of public safety whether it be police, fire or EMS takes a heavy toll on the mental health of those that choose to serve. If anyone is struggling with mental health please speak with someone. Please seek out the help that is needed.
CMPD K-9 Officer Brent Simpson passed away today from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officer Simpson was a graduate of the 148th Recruit Class and served with CMPD since 2006. Most recently, Officer Simpson was assigned to the K-9 unit and faithfully served alongside his K-9 partner, Levi, for six years. Prior to joining CMPD, Officer Simpson served in the U.S. Navy as an Operation Specialist with the Military Police for four years.
His life and service will never be forgotten. Please say a prayer for Officer Simpson's loved ones and fellow officers during this difficult time.
