πŸš’ THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! πŸš’

The Charlotte Fire Department would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended and supported both our Biennial Fire Department Open House and our first Side-by-Side (SxS) Benefit Ride!

πŸš’ Fire Department Open House

We had an outstanding turnout, with an estimated 600–700 people attending throughout the evening! The weather was great, and it was wonderful to see so many families and community members come out.

A special thank you to all the organizations and agencies that participated by providing demonstrations, displays, educational information, and activities. We appreciate the opportunity to showcase not only what our department does, but also the many organizations we work alongside to help keep our community safe.

We would also like to recognize Kilgore-Green-Burket Funeral Home for their generous financial donation to help our volunteer members put on this event!

πŸ›» Side-by-Side Benefit Ride

Our first SxS Benefit Ride, supporting the Charlotte Fire Department Volunteer Members Association, was a great success! We had 107 units and 220 riders participate!

Thank you to everyone who joined us, along with the many individuals and businesses that donated food, prizes, and other items to make this first ride such a success. We couldn't have done it without your generosity and support!

A Thank You to Our Members

Both of these events require a tremendous amount of planning, preparation, and work by our volunteer members. The proceeds from the benefit ride help support the Volunteer Members Association and make events like our biennial Open House possible.

Last, but certainly not least, thank you to the members of the Charlotte Fire Department for all the extra time and effort put into making both events successful. These events came during an already extremely busy few weeks for our department, and we appreciate everyone who stepped up and put in the additional work.

We are fortunate to have such a supportive community, and we look forward to continuing both of these events for years to come!

πŸš’πŸ”₯ Busy Weekend for the Charlotte Fire Department! πŸ”₯πŸš’

Charlotte Fire Department crews have had a busy weekend, including a stretch today where firefighters responded to two fires and two medical emergencies, all within the same time frame.

At 11:02 AM, while Unit 311 was assisting Eaton Area EMS with a medical emergency, the department was dispatched to a reported house fire in the City of Charlotte.

Unit 312 arrived just four minutes later, at 11:06 AM, reporting light smoke coming from the attic. Crews quickly deployed an attack line and located the fire in the attic of a single-story section of a two-story residence.

As additional units arrived, firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to the area of origin. However, extensive overhaul operations were necessary to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and no hidden fire remained.

As crews were wrapping up operations at the house fire, the department was dispatched to another priority medical emergency and a reported vehicle fire near the border of Eaton and Brookfield Townships.

Deputy Chief 303 arrived at the vehicle fire in under five minutes and reported the cab of a pickup truck was fully involved. Units clearing the house fire responded directly to the vehicle fire and quickly extinguished it, while other personnel returned to the station to clean, restock, and return apparatus and equipment to service.

πŸ”Ž Fire Investigation Findings:

House Fire: The cause was determined to be an electrical short circuit/arcing event.

Vehicle Fire: The cause was determined to be an electrical issue within the vehicle's electrical system.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported at either fire scene.

With a busy night last night and multiple overlapping emergencies today, this weekend has kept our firefighters on the move. Incidents like these demonstrate just how quickly emergency calls can overlap and the importance of having personnel and equipment ready to respond at a moment's notice.

We are proud of the work our firefighters continue to put in, managing multiple emergencies, transitioning between incidents, and working to ensure our community remains protected.

πŸš’πŸ”₯ Happy 154th Birthday to the Charlotte Fire Department! πŸ”₯πŸš’

October 8, 1872 – October 8, 2026

Today marks 154 years of service, dedication, and tradition for the Charlotte Fire Department!

On October 8, 1871, the Great Chicago Fire began, becoming one of the most devastating fires in American history. Exactly one year later, on October 8, 1872, the Charlotte Fire Department was officially established.

It is hard to imagine that the events in Chicago just one year earlier didn't weigh heavily on the minds of Charlotte's residents and community leaders. Recognizing the importance of organized fire protection, 36 members came together to form Charlotte Hose Company No. 1, beginning a tradition of service that continues today.

As we celebrate 154 years, we wanted to share a few interesting pieces of our department's early history:

πŸš’ 1878 – The department purchased its first steam-powered fire pumper.

πŸ”” 1886 – A fire bell was purchased and served as the City's fire alarm until 1930. That very same bell is still preserved and proudly displayed in front of our Downtown Fire Station!

🐴 1898 – The department acquired its first official fire horses, Mink and Mack. Before that, firefighters would actually race their own horses to the station to pull the fire apparatus to emergencies!

🐎 1898–1918 – A total of five teams of horses served the Charlotte Fire Department before the department transitioned away from horse-drawn apparatus.

These are just a few of the many stories that make up our department's incredible history.

From horse-drawn equipment and steam pumpers to the modern apparatus and technology we use today, much has changed over the past 154 years. But one thing has remained the same: the commitment of our firefighters to protecting the lives and property of the community we serve.

The photos below offer a glimpse into that history, from our earliest days through the generations of firefighters, equipment, and stations that have brought us to where we are today.

We are proud of those who came before us, grateful for those who serve today, and honored to continue the traditions established back in 1872.

Here's to 154 years of the Charlotte Fire Department, and to the generations still to come! πŸš’

3rd Alarm Barn Fire Response β€” October 7th

At approximately 4:45 PM, the Charlotte Fire Department was dispatched to a reported barn fire in Chester Township, with flames visible.
While en route, crews could see a large column of black smoke from a distance. Dispatch also advised that there was another barn nearby, prompting us to request a 2nd alarm, bringing Vermontville Fire Department and Sunfield Fire Department to the scene.

Our first-arriving unit reached the scene approximately 9 minutes after dispatch and found a hip-roof barn fully involved in fire, with multiple exposures including a nearby pole barn that had also caught fire.

A 3rd alarm was then requested, bringing tankers from Benton Township and Roxand Township, while Olivet Fire Department responded to standby in Charlotte.

Attack lines were quickly deployed to knock down the fire in the pole barn and protect surrounding exposures while additional resources arrived.
Charlotte Fire Department utilized both aerial apparatuses to help knock down the fire. The main fire was considered under control in approximately 20 minutes.

Crews remained on scene for several hours extinguishing large mounds of hay. An excavator was also utilized to assist firefighters with accessing and extinguishing the remaining hot spots.

While this incident was ongoing, Olivet Fire Department and additional Charlotte Fire units also responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident in the City of Charlotte.

We used about 44,500 gallons of water to exstinguish the fire and happy to report that there were no reported injuries from the barn fire, and all seven horses had escaped the barn prior to our arrival.

We would like to extend our thanks to all of the departments and agencies that assisted us today, including:
Vermontville Fire Department
Sunfield Fire Department
Benton Township Fire Department
Roxand Township Fire Department
Olivet Fire Department
Eaton Area EMS
Eaton County 911
Tri-County Electric
Ackerson & Son Excavation

And last but not least, Thank you to all of Charlotte Fire members who answered the call.
