Happy Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence Day!
MeckDec Day Message:
In 1775 and 1776, the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County were worth fighting for.
And in 2026, Charlotte and Mecklenburg County are still worth fighting for.
Today, we commemorate the Mecklenburg patriots who were among the first in America to declare their independence from King George. The Mecklenburgers stood against tyranny and declared that liberty was worth sacrifice, worth struggle, and worth fighting for.
The patriots of old knew they had to overcome saber and bayonet. Today, we must overcome the blows of a new woke enemy.
They faced the tyranny of King George. Today, we face the tyranny of Roy Cooper and the radical agenda that seeks to reshape our state and our nation.
Their fight was physical. Ours may be political and cultural. But make no mistake—the stakes are just as real.
The freedom of a county.
The freedom of a state.
The freedom of a country.
All are at stake.
And just like the patriots of old, I stand with you tonight to say:
To arms. To arms. To arms.
We must fight. Fight. Fight.
We must fight to preserve our integrity.
We must fight to preserve the future for our posterity.
And we must fight to keep our country free.
The Republican Party was born from the belief that all men are created equal—that Americans should be judged by their character, by their effort, and by their works, not by some DEI matrix forced upon them by bureaucrats and activists.
We know this fight will not be easy. But the things worth fighting for never are.
This November, we must overcome a new disease—the disease of wokeness.
We must overcome a new sword—the Democrat machine that dominates Mecklenburg County.
But we will prevail.
We will overcome.
And we will shine forth just like the patriots who came before us.
We are resolved never to return to the days of kings.
And we are resolved never to return to the days of lockdowns, mandates, and fear.
This November, we must rally.
We must support those running for office.
We must support those already serving.
And we must give our blood, our sweat, our toil, and our treasure to the cause of liberty.
Because never before—except perhaps during the Revolution itself—has so much been at stake.
In 2016, Donald Trump carried the torch of the Republican Party and overcame what many believed was an unbeatable establishment.
In 2020, despite every obstacle placed before him, millions of Americans still stood with him and with the ideals he represented.
And in 2024, he helped lead this country back toward common sense, patriotism, and American strength.
Now, a new generation of patriots stands before us.
To those running for office tonight—please stand and be recognized.
To those currently serving in office—please stand and be recognized.
And to every patriot in this room who is determined to make sure North Carolina never again falls under the rule of a “King Cooper” agenda—stand and be recognized.
Because you are the path forward.
You are the torchbearers of a new generation of Republican leadership.
You are the patriots who will carry this fight into November.
Never give up.
Never surrender.
Because all that we hold dear is at stake.
Patriots, I ask you:
What future do we want to leave our children?
A legacy of fear?
Or a legacy of courage?
A legacy of weakness?
Or a legacy of lions?
Will we leave them a nation that apologizes for its greatness?
Or one that remembers its inheritance as Americans and as Republicans?
The choice is ours.
And now, I charge each and every one of you to go forth and do your duty.
Go forth and help your neighbors understand the great task before us.
Go forth and help your friends understand what is at stake.
Go forth and help your family understand the responsibility we carry for the future of this country.
Because the future of this republic does not belong to politicians alone. It belongs to patriots willing to stand, to fight, and to preserve it for the next generation.
And so I leave you with the timeless warning—and challenge—given to us by Benjamin Franklin:
“A republic, if you can keep it.”
Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come to keep it.
So let us leave here united.
Let us leave here determined.
And let us leave here ready to fight for Charlotte, for Mecklenburg County, for North Carolina, and for the United States of America.
May God bless you, may God bless Mecklenburg County, and may God bless the United States of America.

Today we celebrate Mecklenburg Declaration Day — the day in 1775 when Mecklenburg County boldly declared independence from British rule, months before the rest of the colonies.
Proud of our county’s revolutionary spirit and the fight for liberty that started right here.
