Did you ever wonder why NCWF has a bison on its logo? Bison were native in North Carolina until about 1799 when the last one was shot.
Believe it or not, bison once roamed North Carolina.
In fact, so many places across the state still carry the buffalo name today, from Buffalo Creek to Buffalo Cove.
Though bison in NC disappeared from the wild in the 1700s, they still remain a powerful conservation symbol, including right here at NC Wildlife Federation, where it has been part of our logo since 1969.
