Member Line of Duty Death: Master Trooper Steven J. Perry
Dear Patrol Family,
It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of one of our own. Master Trooper Steven J. Perry has passed away from an on-duty traffic collision while working in Durham County. Initial indications are that early this morning he was struck head-on by a wrong-way driver while traveling on NC-147. The other involved driver is also deceased from the traffic collision.
Trooper Perry was a member of the 148th Basic Patrol School and has served Durham County throughout his nearly 7-year career. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and fellow troopers who had the privilege of serving alongside him. We ask that you keep the entirety of his family and our Patrol Family in your thoughts.
We would like to thank the Durham County Emergency Medical Services, Durham Fire Department, Durham Police Department and the North Carolina Department of Transportation IMAP Division for their extensive assistance at the scene of this crash.
As further details become available and as a celebration of life service is planned, we will ensure that details are shared.

**UPDATE** After the line of duty death of Master Trooper Stien Davis Jr. on February 22, 2026, he leaves behind a soon to be one-year-old son. Dear Patrol Family,
It is with deepest sadness that I inform you of a member’s on duty passing. Master Trooper Stien Davis, Jr. (Troop B, District 7, Robeson County) was involved in a single vehicle collision shortly after midnight this morning and was pronounced deceased.
The initial reports are that he was on duty and traveling in his patrol vehicle when he lost control of his vehicle, traveled off the road and overturned in a swampy roadside area while on NC 130. The specifics related to the cause of the collision are under investigation at this time.
Master Trooper Davis was a member of the 141st Basic Patrol School and served our state and the Robeson County area with distinction. Any forthcoming details related to his passing as well as information related to a celebration of life ceremony will be shared as we move forward.

Today we proudly recognize National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day and extend our sincere gratitude to the four dedicated School Resource Officers of the Mount Holly Police Department.
Our SROs play a vital role in keeping our schools safe while building positive relationships with students, staff, and families throughout the community. Beyond their daily responsibilities on campus, they are instrumental in making our annual Kids Camp and Shop with a Cop meaningful experiences for youth in our community.
Thank you to Sergeant Bell, Corporal Ellison, Officer Oquinn, and Officer Walker for your dedication and the positive impact you make every single day.

Today, on School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, the Mount Holly Police Department proudly recognizes and thanks our dedicated school crossing guards for their outstanding service to our community.
Each day, rain or shine, our crossing guards play a vital role in keeping our children safe as they travel to and from school. Their commitment, attentiveness, and genuine care help ensure that students and families start and end their day safely.
Please join us in thanking these individuals for their continued dedication to the safety of our children.
With the snow stopping and temperatures dropping overnight, please be aware the roads will be treacherous. Please stay home if you do not need to be out driving. Please be safe and enjoy this snow from the warmth of home. Check on your neighbors and stay bundled if playing outside.

As severe winter weather moves through our area, please take a moment to slow down, stay off the roads if you can, and use extra caution if you must travel.
We also encourage everyone to check on elderly neighbors, friends, or anyone who may need a little extra help during the cold. A quick call or knock can make a big difference.

Do not follow the link nor provide payment information if you do. The NC DMV will never request payment via text. If you receive a similar text, please reach out to your cell carrier and the FTC.
