National Hispanic Heritage Month may have a set spot on the calendar, but honoring culture and community extends 365 days a year at Crisis Assistance Ministry.

We believe the best way to serve our community is to truly reflect it. Our team brings together diverse backgrounds, traditions, and lived experiences from across Latin America and beyond, allowing us to connect with our neighbors with genuine empathy, language accessibility, and cultural understanding.

When people in financial crisis come to us for help, seeing staff who reflects and understands their community helps ensure they are met with comfort, respect, and dignity.

We’re proud of our incredible staff, proud of the rich cultures represented across our organization, and dedicated to serving Charlotte every single day of the year. 💙

Today, we’re pausing to look back on a wonderful afternoon with The Institute for Philanthropic Leadership at The Mint Museum Uptown.

Good conversations, familiar faces, and the opportunity to celebrate leaders doing meaningful work made the day truly special.

Congratulations to this year’s Michael Marsicano Award recipients.

We’re also taking a moment to celebrate our CEO Carol Hardison as she wraps up her service on the IPL Board of Directors. Thank you, Carol, for your steadfast leadership and dedication to our community.

Thank you to IPL for bringing leaders together and strengthening the heart of philanthropy across Charlotte.

A little rain couldn’t dampen the incredible energy at McAlpine Creek Park this weekend! 🌧️🏃‍♀️💨

We are so grateful to our friends at Canopy Housing Foundation for celebrating 10 years of Strides for Shelter and choosing Crisis Assistance Ministry as this year’s race beneficiary.

Every runner, walker, and volunteer who laced up their sneakers helped fund a renovation of our Free Store. This project will help us reimagine the space so local families navigating financial hardship can shop for clothing, shoes, and home essentials with even greater ease, comfort, and dignity.

Thank you to the Canopy Realtor® Association and everyone who braved the weather to step up for our neighbors. You proved that when Charlotte comes together, we can weather any storm!

As the temperature begins to drop, our tradition of keeping Charlotte neighbors warm returns. 🧥❄️

Crisis Assistance Ministry is proud to partner once again with WSOC-TV for the annual 9 Coats for Kids campaign (formerly Steve’s Coats for Kids), running from November 1 through December 31!

When temperatures turn freezing, a warm coat isn’t just winter clothing—it is protection, comfort, and peace of mind for families in Mecklenburg County. Every donated coat goes directly to local children and teenagers through our Free Store.

You can donate new or gently used winter coats and jackets of all sizes, from preschool through high school. Drop off donations at any Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte NC or at the WSOC-TV studios at 235 W. 23rd St. in Charlotte.

If you prefer to donate online, you can also shop our Amazon Winter Wishlist to have coats shipped directly to our door.

Together, we can make sure no child in our community faces winter in the cold. 💙

Towing vehicles is their day job, but towing love, hot meals, and care straight to our neighbors is their passion! 🚗💨🍲

In recognition of World Food Day, we are reminded that ensuring every family has access to nourishing food starts right here at the community level.

A huge thank you to Ingram’s Towing and Recovery for stepping up to cater and serve delicious meals and essential care packages for our neighbors this past weekend. Ingrams Towing & Recovery

This marks their second with us, and rain or shine, their team brought big smiles, warm food, and generous hearts. When local businesses roll in to lift up our community, they help steer all of Charlotte toward dignity and stability.

Every day, an average of 80 families shop at no cost for clothing and household goods in our Free Store, a 5.3% increase from last year.

For many of us, buying new clothes or household essentials may feel routine. But for neighbors with limited incomes, being able to shop at no cost can ease a financial burden and create space in their budget for other essentials.
