Duke Mansion Built in 1915, Duke Mansion is a nonprofit inn, gardens and meeting place in the heart of Charlotte. www.thedukemansion.org

We have been home and host to the leaders of the 20th century. More than a century of history and hospitality is behind everything we do. Built in 1915 and tripled by its most famous owner James Buchanan Duke, The Duke Mansion has been home and host to leaders of the 20th century. Duke’s most lasting legacies, including Duke University, Duke Energy and the Duke Endowment, took shape at the home. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Mansion is now operated as a nonprofit Historic Inn and Meeting Place, with all proceeds being used to preserve and protect this community treasure.

Duke Mansion Preservation Society supporters waved summer goodbye with a star-spangled celebration full of Colonial fun, family smiles, and plenty of red, white, and blue spirit honoring America’s 250th anniversary. With our wonderful re-enactors and Preservation planning committee leading the way, guests of all ages took a lively leap back in time—trying colonial games, learning colonial dances, marching like mini patriots, and discovering history in the most hands-on way possible. Then came the grand finale: a thrilling musket volley, booming cannon shots, and one big birthday cheer for America!

We loved welcoming .family for a picnic experience in the Mary D.B.T. Semans Gardens and seeing the beautiful moments they captured along the way.

A Duke Mansion picnic is all about slowing down, savoring something delicious, and enjoying the beauty around you. We definitely agree that It’s a picnic and a little bit of an art form too.

Ready to plan your own garden escape? Learn more about our picnic experience through the link in our bio.
