In November 2026, Monticello will launch Cultivating Civic Imaginations: Educating for American Democracy, a yearlong community of practice for organizations dedicated to civic learning! The initiative begins with a summit at Monticello, where practitioners from across the country will develop projects that advance civic learning, democratic engagement, and public history in their own communities.

The summit grows from Monticello’s work with the Educating for American Democracy Community Learning Partners Network, a national community of informal educators in museums, libraries, and historic sites working to strengthen civic learning in the United States.

We are so excited to welcome the inaugural cohort of 50 professionals from organizations in 29 states and the District of Columbia to the mountaintop next month! Learn more about this initiative and this year’s participants at bit.ly/3W0Y5B0

It’s not every day that Archaeology at Monticello finds an artifact on the mountaintop that can be linked to an object in the Monticello collection.

Watch to hear Miranda’s story of how she used our collections database to discover that silver fragments excavated on the mountaintop once belonged to Martha Jefferson Randolph’s pocketbook. Follow along so you don’t miss Part 2, where we’ll take a closer look at the pocketbook itself👛🔍
