FIRST DUE FIRE FOR THE ENGINE AND TRUCK
Yesterday, at 2111 hours, and were dispatched to a structure fire with smoke reported in the basement. Tower 88 arrived first at 2112, with a bystander alerting its crew to a possible person trapped in the basement. 88 completed a search ahead of the line which proved negative, and located an appliance on fire. 83 stretched the 300ft line to the rear of the building, made entry through side Charlie, and put out the fire only eight minutes after dispatch. The crew of 88 thanks the young bystander for his prompt report; luckily the reported resident was not home at the time.

Today, 26 members of Seminole Trail Volunteer Fire Department climbed the stairs of Scott Stadium in remembrance of the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Each step was taken in honor of the firefighters who climbed into the World Trade Center that morning while thousands of others were making their way out. They answered the call knowing the danger ahead, committed to their duty and to the lives of people they had never met.

Twenty-five years later, we climb so their courage, sacrifice, and service are never forgotten.

We remember the 343. We remember all those lost on September 11, 2001.

E83 GOES INTERIOR

A quiet night quickly turned busy after a day of celebrating America’s Birthday across the county. Engine 83 was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in Hollymead.
Battalion Chief 201 arrived first, established command, and reported smoke and fire showing from the crawl space on the Alpha/Bravo corner of the home. Upon E83’s arrival, fire was extending from the crawl space and first-floor windows. Crews initiated an aggressive interior fire attack, knocking down the main body of fire on the first floor just 1 minute and 55 seconds after E83 arrived on scene.
With limited access to the crawl space below, E83 cut an access hole through the first floor, allowing crews to extinguish the remaining fire from above.

Great work by all crews on scene with a quick stop that helped limit further extension and damage.

ENGINE COMPANY OPERATIONS DAY

This Saturday, 7 volunteers drilled engine company operations on for 9 hours. Rookie firefighters practiced stretch techniques of the 300’ line and racks in several apartment buildings and rowhomes. This 2 minute video shows two firemen performing a stretch with racks and a leader line to a distant, third floor apartment. The 2.5” was hoisted and tied off at the stairs.

Congratulations to our 15 members who graduated from the University of Virginia this spring. 🎓

Balancing coursework, exams, and the demands of volunteer service is no small feat, and these individuals did it with commitment and dedication. We are incredibly proud to have watched them grow not only as students, but as firefighters, and most importantly, members of this community.

CAR TOUCHES DOWN IN STATION 8’s DUE

At 1958, volunteers on , , and were dispatched to a trap at Seminole Trail and Myers Drive. established command for the working extrication. Company 8 extricated the sole occupant in 10 minutes and they were transported to the hospital by ACFR EMS providers.

ENGINE 83 GOES 3RD DUE FOR HOUSE FIRE IN HAMMOCKS GAP
At 1807 hours, right after shift change, was dispatched to Box 0680 in Company 6’s area for reports of a house on fire. E161 arrived first with fire showing on the D and C sides through all floors. E83 arrived third and stretched two lines, while 83 Chauf established a dump site. After initial knockdown, command requested E83 enter first to determine the integrity of the floor and stairs, and after deeming both sound, E83 began knocking down fire and opening up on the first and second floors until command pulled units out. The members of Station 8 operated for approximately 4 hours before returning to Berkmar Drive.
