Meet Wendy Chamberlin, one of the newest members of our Board of Trustees ⭐️

An avid backpacker, Wendy continues to enjoy hiking in Shenandoah while living part-time in her Rappahannock County cabin. Next on her list: section-hiking the Appalachian Trail and visiting every national park!

Her career took her around the world, from serving as U.S. Ambassador to Laos and Pakistan to leading humanitarian work as Deputy High Commissioner of the UN Refugee Agency. She later returned to the DC area as President of the Middle East Institute.

Today, Wendy is dedicated to protecting our national heritage and sharing the joy of our national parks with her four grandchildren.

Welcome to the board, Wendy! We’re so glad to have you.

Meet Pam Drooger, one of the newest members of our Board of Trustees ⭐️

Pam’s career is rooted in a commitment to environmental quality. She began with the state of West Virginia, working on public water system compliance, monitoring discharges to state waters, and conducting water quality surveys.

Today, she’s Director of Facilities Operations at Merck’s site in Elkton, Virginia, where she leads the teams responsible for site utilities, wastewater treatment, and stormwater operations.
Outside of work, you’ll often find Pam on the trail.

From local hikes to Patagonia’s W Trek and Italy’s Dolomites, she’s always seeking new adventures with friends and her two college-aged children.

Welcome to the board, Pam! We’re so glad to have you.

Thank you for an amazing Art in the Park 2026! 👏🎨

From drawing foliage, painting landscapes and learning the basics of crochet, to jamming with the Honey Dew Drops–we had such a spectacular time last weekend.

None of this would have been possible without this year's amazing selection of workshop hosts, sponsors, partners, and participants that brought great energy and passion to the Big Meadows Wayside.

This event has enriched how we experience Shenandoah today and we extend a huge thank you to everyone who joined us—you made this event unforgettable! 🌿 💚

🫶 Special thank you to Luray Caverns, F. T. Valley Farm at Mont Medi, Delaware North for their continued support of Art in the Park and to Cerissa Photography for the amazing photos! 📸

Meet Fran Butterfoss, one of our newest Board members!⭐️

Fran and her husband Tom have long supported the Trust's mission. Avid hiker's themselves, they have a particular passion for trails. They helped develop three Track Trails in the Park, encouraging children to learn about Shenandoah's history, the Appalachian Trail, and its plants and animals.

Fran is a retired health educator committed to building, sustaining and evaluating community organizations and partnerships to promote health and social justice for nearly 30 years.

Fun Fact: Fran has hiked 59 major trails in the park as well as Shenandoah's section of the Appalachian Trail(a trail section that is 100+ miles long!) 🥾💪

We're so lucky to have you on our team, Fran! Comment below to help us give Fran a warm welcome ⬇️

If you’ve hiked in Shenandoah, you know the feeling of climbing back up to Skyline Drive after a long day on the trail—steep, demanding, and unforgettable. 🥾🫶

We're excited to welcome Scott Kelly to the Shenandoah National Park Trust Board of Trustees ⭐️

Scott's love for the park began on childhood camping trips, and over the years he's experienced Shenandoah from nearly every angle: as a visitor, a volunteer, a park employee (working in interpretation, backcountry/wilderness, and visitor use monitoring), and now as a Trust board member. That range gives him a deep understanding of both the park's resources and the staff who care for them.

Fun Fact: Scott recently completed a project nearly two decades in the making, hiking every trail and fire road in Shenandoah, a goal he set while working at Byrd Visitor Center during graduate school 🥾🎓

Scott also serves on the board of the Shenandoah Valley Conservancy and is active with several other conservation organizations. Professionally, he's Chief Operating Officer of Antimicrobial Therapy, Inc. When he's not on a trail, you'll find him gardening or listening to bluegrass music.

Welcome to the team, Scott. We're lucky to have you. Comment below and give him a welcome.
