- We appreciate all the hard work the community did to save water during our drought. It is pretty fitting that during Source Water Protection Week, we are able to lift our drought watch designation.
Source water protection is a shared responsibility. Protecting drinking water takes utilities, local governments, landowners, community organizations, and Charlottesville residents working together. Let's keep this momentum around conservation built during the drought to continue to save water and make sure every drop counts!

The drought watch for the Charlottesville and Albemarle County public drinking water service area has been lifted.

Rivanna Authorities lifted the drought watch after local reservoirs and streams stabilized. The South Fork Rivanna Reservoir has been full and spilling since August 3, and recent rain, cooler temperatures, and lower evaporation rates have improved the region’s water supply outlook.

While the drought watch has ended, Charlottesville Utilities continues to encourage everyday water conservation to help us use this important resource efficiently.
