Monticello football would be the #7 seed if the VHSL Region 3C playoffs started today (schools in green have 'clinched' and schools in red are 'eliminated' from playoff contention).

This Friday, Oct. 23, the Mustangs (3-1, 5-2) travel to Goochland (2-2, 3-4 & currently the 5th ranked team in Region 3B) to play in their fourth consecutive Homecoming game. Kickoff in Goochland is at 7:00pm.

Next school year, the 2027-2028 school year, will be the 30th anniversary of the opening of Monticello High School, which opened in the Fall of 1998. In conjunction with the 30th Anniversary, tonight we announce the creation of the Monticello Mustangs Athletics Hall of Fame. Nominations are open as of tonight. Nomination and Hall of Fame information are available at home athletic events and in the athletics office. All are welcome to participate in nominating worthy candidates.

Monticello Student-Athletes, Coaches, Contributors and Teams will all be recognized annually, and our alumni and community will have a significant voice and vote at every step of the nomination and selection process. The first class of Monticello Athletics Hall of Fame finalists will be announced in Spring 2027, with the first Hall of Fame class being inducted next fall.

Monticello has rushed for an even 1,500 yards in its first five games, averaging 7.1 yards per attempt. Jaiden Walker leads the team with 547 yards, Sh’kai Pendleton (390 yards) averages a team-best 9.1 yards per carry, and QB's Ian Feggans and Shade McGann have combined for 485 yards (and 11 TDs).

Attention Monticello students - Thanks to an anonymous pledge, students attending tonight's game (in the Mustang Maniacs student section) will receive half-price admission to next week's Homecoming game. If the Mustangs win tonight, the donation makes next week's student ticket FREE. Go Mustangs!

Monticello's Cardell Scott scored the game winning touchdown with just over a minute left to play, lifting the Mustangs to the win in the JV version of the Route 53 Showdown. Joseph Stemler and Rowan Smith also scored touchdowns, with Stemler's PAT kick from a Brycen Ralston snap and Miller Polson hold - following Scott's score - providing the winning margin. The JV Mustangs improve to 6-0 on the season, 3-0 in Jefferson District play.
