A combination department, the Chatham Community Fire Protection District was formed in 1928.

The Chatham Community Fire Protection District was formed in 1928 and has continuously provided fire protection services to the Village of Chatham and the surrounding communities since its inception. Our station is located on Illinois Route 4 in the Village of Chatham, Illinois. The Chatham Community Fire Protection District covers approximately 75 square miles, encompassing the Village of Chatham and the surrounding area. We provide Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Medical Services to over 21,000 residents within the District. We are a combination Fire Department comprised of dedicated paid and volunteer members. The District is governed by a three member board of Trustees whom are appointed by the Sangamon County Board. Our operational staffing includes three full-time Chief Officers, twenty-two volunteer positions, and fifteen full-time firefighter positions. Our support staff includes a three member Board of Fire Commissioners, an Office Manager and Administrative Assistant, a Chaplain, and a Department Photographer. The Chatham Community Fire Protection District are members of: M.A.B.A.S. Division 48; Illinois Fire Chiefs Association; Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts; Sangamon County Fire Chiefs Association; South County Fire Protection District Association; and Chatham Area Chamber of Commerce.

Another Great Day of Fire Prevention at Chatham Fire!

Last week we wrapped up another wonderful fire prevention event by welcoming the students from Ball Elementary School to Your Chatham Fire Department!

We love having the opportunity to connect with our local students, show them a little more about life at the firehouse, and teach them important fire safety lessons that they can take home to their families.

A big thank-you to Ball Elementary for visiting us! We always enjoy these special opportunities to help keep our community safe, one little firefighter at a time!

Your Chatham Fire Department would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to our wonderful Village for coming out to celebrate our annual Open House!

We always enjoy opening the doors to our firehouse, welcoming you into our home, and sharing a little bit of what we do with the community we are so proud to serve.

Saturday was a beautiful day filled with family, friends, laughter, and community spirit! Your support throughout the years has been unmatched, and we truly appreciate each and every one of you.

And here's something exciting to look forward to! In just two short years, Chatham Fire Department will celebrate its 100th birthday! We're already looking forward to making that year's Open House our BIGGEST celebration yet!

Until then, thank you for continuing to show up, support us, and make Chatham such a special place to call home.

Fire Prevention Week – Day 2!

Today we welcomed the 3rd graders from Glenwood Elementary School to the Chatham Fire Department for another great day of Fire Prevention Week!

Students got a behind-the-scenes look at life at the firehouse, toured the station and fire engine and ambulance, learned about firefighter gear, and talked about what to do if there is ever a fire in their home. Of course, there was plenty of fun along the way too!

We love having the opportunity to spend time with our local students and teach them important fire-safety lessons they can take home and share with their families.

Thank you to the Glenwood 3rd graders and teachers for spending the day with us! We hope you had as much fun as we did!

We had a great time welcoming the 3rd graders from Chatham Elementary School to the Chatham Fire Department for the start of Fire Prevention Week!

Students got a behind-the-scenes look at life at the firehouse, touring the station and seeing where our firefighters eat, cook, sleep, and spend time together between calls. They also learned about the gear our firefighters wear, talked about smoke alarms, and got an up-close look at one of our fire engines and ambulances.

Of course, we mixed in some fun, too! The kids had a chance to bounce their way through our fire safety bounce house while learning an important lesson—what to do if there is a fire in their home and how to get out safely.

Fire prevention education is one of our favorite parts of serving our community. Teaching kids these important skills at a young age can make a difference when it matters most.

A big thank you to Chatham Elementary School, the teachers, staff, and all of the awesome 3rd graders who spent the day with us! We loved having you at the firehouse!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Chatham Fire Department members are issued a pink shirt to honor Breast Cancer Survivors, those who have fought, those who are currently fighting the disease, and those who will be diagnosed. Let's keep up the fight!
