It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of a true fixture of our department and community, Tyrone Wilkerson aka Ty.

For over 50 years, Tyrone served the City of Chattanooga Public Works Department with dedication, pride, and an unwavering commitment to making our city a better place for everyone. Half a century of public service is a rare and extraordinary achievement, and Tyrone’s hard work, wisdom, and warm presence left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the entire Chattanooga community.

This photo shows Tyrone celebrating his remarkable 50th anniversary milestone a couple of years ago surrounded by those who loved and supported him. He was more than a dedicated public servant—he was family to us all. Our deepest thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to Tyrone’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of service to Chattanooga will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Tyrone. Thank you for 50 plus incredible years.

A huge thank you to Caroline Johnson and Cherie Thompson from our Public Works Department for visiting us and sharing meaningful details about Chattanooga’s Veterans Program and the Fallen 5 memorial plaques that stay on the bridge year-round.

If you want your loved one to have a flag flown on the bridge in their honor, submit your application soon! You can apply online at chattanooga.gov. The deadline to submit applications is October 28, ahead of our Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11.

COMING PAVING PROJECTS FOR NEXT WEEK OCT 19TH-23RD

Paving and resurfacing work scheduled for the coming week will focus on the following corridors (all locations are located in Council District 7 unless otherwise noted)

Driveways and intersections may briefly close as machinery progresses past individual sites. On-street parking is restricted throughout active resurfacing days, and advance warning notices will be distributed to nearby properties prior to work commencing. While no complete road closures are planned, single-lane closures managed by flagging operations will be utilized as crews resurface one lane at a time. Motorists are urged to exercise heightened awareness and adhere to all directions from flaggers.
