The regular monthly meeting of Post 257 will be Thursday, September 27, 2018. We will be meeting at our regular location, the Greenbriar Cove Community Center starting at 6:00 PM. A catered dinner will be available at that time and a business session will follow at approximately 7:00 PM. Our caterer will be serving a meal featuring chicken and dressing casserole, selection of sides, salad and dessert. Additional information is available at www.collegedale-americanlegion.org.
On Sunday, September 30, the post will host the Collegedale flea market at Collegedale Community Church starting at 8:00 AM. This is a re-schedule of the market that was rained out on Sept. 16. Please come out and support the post at this fundraiser. Spaces are still available if you want to come to sell. Checkout the website, www.collegedalefleamarket.com for information.
On Saturday, October 13, the post along with Boy Scout Troop 147 will conduct a flag retirement ceremony in Collegedale Veterans Memorial Park starting at 2:00 PM. Members are encouraged to attend.
A fundraiser chili dinnner is planned for November 4, 4:00 - 7:00 PM to be held at Greenbriar Cove Community Center. Plan to come and enjoy a great meal of various types of chili along with the usual accompaniments such as chips, cornbread, cheese, etc. Cost is only $6.00.
Because Veterans Day is on Sunday this year, local plans are to observe it on Friday, November 9. As has been the custom for the post and post auxiliary, visits will be made to the several local care facilities to honor the veterans at those facilities. We also understand that the traditonal ceremony conducted by Collegedale VFW in the Collegedale Veterans Memorial Park will be at 3:00 PM on that date as well. This is a change from previous years when an earlier start time was scheduled.
