Today is Call a Friend Day đ
Most of us love this time of year, but for people who are separated from friends and family, it can be quite a lonely time. Did you know that feelings of depression often increase during the holidays? Sometimes the simple act of reaching out can make all the difference.
Hereâs something hopeful: research shows that just a 10-minute phone call can significantly boost happiness and reduce feelings of loneliness⌠for both people on the line.
Today is the perfect reminder to pick up the phone, call a friend, and let them know youâre thinking of them. If youâre reading this post, and someone you care about comes to mind, why not give them a call? A lighthearted chat, a laugh, and a kind word will not only brighten their entire day, it will brighten yours, too.

Winter break is the perfect time to slow down, stay warm, and create special memories with your kids. And what better way to spend a chilly afternoon than making a rich, velvety cup of Italian hot chocolate together?
This recipe comes from an Italian grandma who knows exactly how to make the perfect cup, luxuriously thick, smooth, and just sweet enough. What makes this recipe fun is that you can control the sweetness. If you love dark chocolate, you can keep it rich and bold, or add a little extra sugar for a sweeter treat.
This Italian-style hot chocolate isnât your usual sip-and-go drink; itâs thick and creamy, almost like a cross between pudding and hot cocoa. And so easy to make. Your kids will love helping you make it and, of course, drinking it!
Italian Hot Chocolate Recipe
Serves 3
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups milk
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
3â4 tablespoons cocoa powder
3 ½ ounces dark chocolate (use a chocolate bar chopped into pieces or dark chocolate chips)
Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions:
In a small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in a few tablespoons of milk.
Add sugar, and a pinch of salt (just a pinch) and mix well.
Pour cornstarch mix into the cocoa powder. Mix until there are no lumps.
With the heat off, pour half the milk into the pot. Add the slurry, then add the rest of the milk.
Turn the heat on and whisk until the milk comes to a simmer. Then add chocolate.
When the chocolate is melted, itâs done.
Serve immediately and enjoy every warm, rich chocolatey sip!
Whether you make it once or all winter long, this recipe is a delicious way to bring the family together and create cozy holiday memories.

As the days become shorter and the weather gets colder, many people notice changes in their mood or energy levels. Some people experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression that happens during the darker months of the year.
If youâre feeling low, irritable, or have an âemptyâmood most of the day, these could be signs of SAD, which affects over 10 million Americans every year. http://bit.ly/3HsrHQX
Taking small steps like getting outside during daylight hours, moving your body, or keeping a steady routine can help. Light therapy, talking with a friend, or reaching out to a healthcare provider are also great options for support.
This season, letâs check in on ourselves and each other. A simple call, a kind word, or an invite to get outside can brighten someoneâs day.
Youâre not alone. Brighter days are coming. â¨

No one should have to choose between keeping the lights on and putting food on the table. But for many families, thatâs exactly what happens.
In Tennessee, 44% of households with children have had to cut back on essentials like food or medicine just to pay an energy bill. For 1 in 5, this happens almost every month.
At Chattanooga Housing Authority, we know that affordable housing is just one piece of the puzzleâfamilies also need affordable utilities to truly feel secure. Thatâs why weâre proud to have EPB as part of our network, offering Energy Assistance Programs to help residents keep their homes powered without sacrificing basic needs.
đ Affordable housing + affordable utilities = real stability.
đĄ A safe, well-lit home shouldnât come at the cost of food or medicine.
đ¤ If youâre struggling with utility bills, EPB might be able to help.
