Knowing where a fire extinguisher is only helps if you know how to use it.

PASS gives you four steps that are easy to remember:
• Pull the pin.
• Aim at the base of the fire.
• Squeeze the handle.
• Sweep from side to side.

Learn the steps now, not when the fire starts or when the alarm is sounding. Understanding how to use the extinguisher can help keep a small fire from reaching coworkers, customers, equipment, or the rest of the building.

Congratulations to Ms. Neely’s 2nd Grade Class at Orchard K**b Elementary!

We’re proud to celebrate Ms. Neely’s class for participating in and winning the NFPA Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest! This year’s theme focused on lithium-ion battery fire safety and the importance of charging safely.

A special congratulations to Nadia Espey, whose winning poster earned her entire class an ice cream party from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Fire and life safety education starts young, and teaching children how to recognize hazards, make safe choices, and prevent fires helps build safer homes and communities for years to come.

Thank you to all the students who participated and to the teachers who encourage creativity, learning, and fire safety awareness in the classroom. Your efforts make a difference!

Please use certified chargers, don’t overcharge, and never charge a swollen or damaged battery.

A damaged lithium-ion battery can overheat & start a fire. Check out this experiment that simulates thermal runaway. Safe charging saves lives!
