At 7:40 AM on 10/14, our department was dispatched as a single company to a rural location in the northeastern part of our district for a reported fire involving an old trailer.

Responding apparatus included Engine 211, Mini Pumper M212, M213, and Tanker 211, with additional support from a Chatauqua County Police.

Thanks to coordinated teamwork with our volunteers, we were able to bring the fire, partially located within an old foundation, under control in a timely manner.

Our members returned to quarters at approximately 9:25 AM.

We appreciate the dedication of our volunteers who responded and worked together to serve our community. šŸš’

This past Tuesday, Bemus Point Fire Department shared with us their new 26' Stanley XL Center Console Hardtop Cruiser. Our team was so fascinated with this boat that can pump water from the lake that this was the only picture taken šŸ˜†

As our mutual aid partner, this boat will play a part in fire suppression and water rescue in our own district and is a safety asset to our whole lake region.

From Stanley Boats: ā€œBuilt for speed, stability, and all-weather performance, it's equipped for medical emergencies, fire suppression, search and rescue, and public safety operations across Chautauqua Lake.ā€

Check out Bemus Point Fire Department’s recent posts for more pictures and information. We extend our gratitude to their team for giving us several opportunities to have drills with the boat and become familiar with its capabilities.

Twenty-five years have passed since September 11, 2001.

Some of our members today were not born yet. Others remember exactly where they were when the towers fell, and some had loved ones who were there.

We remember the 2,977 lives lost, including 343 FDNY firefighters and one New York fire patrolman who gave their lives answering the call.

We remember the civilians who faced unimaginable terror. We remember the responders who ran toward it. And we remember the countless people who spent the months and years that followed searching, recovering, rebuilding, and carrying what they had witnessed. More than 10,500 FDNY members are currently living with a 9/11-related illness.

We remember their courage. Their sacrifice. Their determination. And the extraordinary way people came together in the face of something no one could have imagined.

As the years pass, ā€œNever Forgetā€ carries a responsibility of its own: to listen, document, teach, and preserve the full story for those who were not there -- not only the tragedy and loss, but the courage and humanity that emerged from it.

Today, our members will gather in our own community to remember and honor them.

Twenty-five years later, the responsibility to remember belongs to all of us.

We will never forget.

Our firefighters spent time training at one of our members’ properties, putting several apparatus and ladder systems to work on a structure.

The drill included ground ladder and roof ladder techniques, ladder truck operations, and working from the roof of a barn. But the value of a drill like this goes far beyond the individual skills being practiced.

Our chiefs have worked to build a strong foundation of skills and procedures that our members continue to develop through hands-on training. Drills like this keep those skills fresh while giving us the opportunity to practice apparatus placement, following command, assessing structures and hazards, and working together as a team.

Training in a rural setting also helps our firefighters prepare for the unique challenges that come with the structures, terrain, and resources we encounter in our community.

Every drill builds on the last — so when an emergency happens, our members are prepared to put those skills to work. šŸ”„
