Meet Pickles, formerly Buddy. Pickles came to us identified via microchip that was registered under 3 different microchip companies all with different owners. Contact was made with each party and they all stated they gave the dog away to each other. With no one interested in reclaiming this little one we still had to hold him stray time. Well stray time has cleared and Pickles is a whole new dog and we’ll let the photos do the talking. Pickles is a Shih Tzu and is approximately 4 years old. Pickles came into us severely matted unable to even relieve himself do the matting and f***l pack. We are not professional groomers here so we apologize in advance for his hair cut, but let’s just say he went from a depressed wallflower to a very happy and excited little guy gobbling up all the attention and loving life. Pickles has since been fully groomed, bathed, vaccinated and neutered and he is ready for his forever loving home. If you are interested in meeting Pickles, please contact Cheektowaga Dog Control at 716-686-3525 to schedule an appointment.

We here at Cheektowaga Dog Control like to be proactive and set the bar high. 12/15/25 a new law went into effect changing state shelter inspections and the requirements set forth by the state. Our education walkthrough was scheduled in August of 2026 which the state inspector goes over everything required under the new law and then schedules your shelter inspection either 30, 60 or 90 days later. Due to us being so proactive the state inspector on our educational walkthrough inquired if we were comfortable commencing with the full inspection instead of scheduling it out, which we absolutely were. We are pleased to announce we passed our full inspection on the educational walkthrough and as far as we know we are the only shelter to accomplish that without having to make changes or improvements. We further received an award for the second year in a row from Best Friends Animal Society for qualifying as a no kill shelter.

Update 10/9/26 - Flower now Rosie was a planned adoption for the day, Piglet now George was not, but has also been adopted. We had some individuals stop by our facility to view our adoptable dogs as they were entering Rosie was leaving with her forever family. They met George and fell in love and George on the same day as his sister found his forever home as well.

Flower and Piglet here. Not sure if you remember us, but we were dumped outside of Home Depot in the Thruway plaza. We came in absolutely terrified and confused, but these wonderful people here have taught us to trust, what love is and that not everything is scary. We have grown so much while in their care. We just can’t believe us youngsters just shy of 6 months haven’t had one adoption application. We are here to say we are ready to find our forever homes, ideally with another dog as it will help us grow. Due to us being littermates we cannot go home together. If you think you are the perfect fit for these sweethearts and want to help them grow into the amazing dogs we know they are please contact Cheektowaga Dog Control at 716-686-3525 to schedule an appointment. Please note we will not be able to accommodate any appointments today 9/22/26 as we are currently in surgery being spayed and neutered.
