We’re excited to share some great news with the Cheektowaga community!
The Cheektowaga Police Department was fortunate to acquire a Hagglunds tracked vehicle through the federal 1033 Program. This specialized vehicle will be available for use during significant snow events, severe weather, and other emergencies when normal emergency vehicles may have difficulty traveling.
Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, including Derrick Manufacturing, along with the hard work and dedication of our Cheektowaga police officers, the Hagglunds has been painted and outfitted for department use ahead of the upcoming winter season.
The Hagglunds is designed to operate in a variety of challenging conditions, including snow, ice, standing water, mud, sand, gravel, and asphalt. It can also accommodate up to 17 people, making it a valuable resource for emergency transportation and response.
During severe weather conditions, the vehicle will primarily be used to assist with emergency response, transport residents and emergency personnel when needed, and help our community navigate situations where traditional vehicles may not be able to safely travel.
We are grateful to Derrick Manufacturing and everyone who helped prepare this vehicle for service. We’re proud to add this resource to our emergency response capabilities and look forward to putting it to work when our community needs it most.
Stay safe this winter, Cheektowaga! 🚔❄️
