Thank you & Wrap on Public Power Week

That’s a wrap on Public Power Week—and what a way to mark 90 years. Thank you, Lewis County, for trusting us to keep your power. You’re not just customers here. You’re the owners. Here’s to the next 90.

Efficiency Friday, Public Power Week edition!

We’ve spent years helping Lewis County get the most out of every kilowatt. This week’s tip: Use one heating source at a time when possible. Starting a fire? Turn off your electric heat. If your heat pump is set to “auto,” the warmth from the fire could cause it to start cooling your home.

When the Lights Go Out

Storms come with the territory when you cover 2,450 square miles of forest and foothills. What counts is how fast the lights come back. Our crews restore power faster than the region’s largest investor-owned utility—more than two hours faster during major storms—and we do it across the biggest system in our peer group, more than 3,100 miles of line. In 2025, our average restoration time improved nearly 8% over the year before. When you’re customer-owned, getting your power back on isn’t a line item. It’s the job.

What does being customer-owned actually mean for you?

There are no shareholders to pay. Rates are set right here, not by a company headquartered far away. Decisions are made in open public meetings you’re welcome to attend. And revenues are reinvested in the system that serves you—an open-access broadband network we’re building across the county, and an ongoing search for local power resources to serve Lewis County. That’s been the promise since 1936.

The People Behind the Power

Public power is really about people.

Meet John Prigmore, one of the linemen who keeps Lewis County running, storm or shine. John has served our customers for more than 16 years, bringing experience, dedication and a commitment to the people who call Lewis County home.

Ninety years in, it’s still local people taking care of the place they call home.
