With mail in ballots arriving in people's mailboxes, I wanted to take a minute to outline three of my top priorities as a father and homeowner in Chelmsford:
1) Schools & Education - The town's schools are aging and require capital investments, including a new middle school. With ~50% of town funds going towards public education, these changes require forethought to ensure Chelmsford remains a great place to raise children.
2) Balanced Town Budget - Property taxes fund ~75% of Chelmsford's budget and with several unfunded liabilities (pensions & OPEB) plus rising costs of healthcare it's getting increasingly difficult to run a balanced budget. Decisions made now will greatly impact the affordability of Chelmsford tomorrow.
3) Town Character - Chelmsford continues to grow, so it's important to balance small town character vs. development. New growth provides more funds but reckless growth degrades quality of life. I will always work to balance these two competing priorities.
