We got the sweetest note from a stranger today. I'm always delighted when we get mail that isn't yet another library furniture catalog. After noticing the bottom the number #14,353 I googled Ellen Webster and it turns out she writes quite a lot of thank you cards as a gratitude practice that began when she and her family were going through a hard time. What a treat of a visitor! Here stands beloved former Chelsea Public Library Children’s Librarian Toni Gildone, holding the Chili Bake-off trophy that has been mystifying me from its perch on a high shelf for years.

Lukas and Mike visited the library from Vienna, Austria today! Lukas was taking a walk down the memory lane of our bookshelves as he lived in Chelsea 18 years ago while on exchange as a student at the Chelsea High School. Mike, his father, is in the middle of a years long effort to sail around the world and the father/son pair took a jaunt on land to see Chelsea after all these years.

I love novelist Naomi Alderman's idea of a Couch to 5k for Reading. https://naomialderman.substack.com/p/lets-do-a-couch-to-5k-for-reading where she presents small goals every day, every week to get you back on track to reading, daily, off a screen (kindle like things are ok :)). You can subscribe to her substack FREE and follow along for daily prompts that suit your goals and lifestyles......and then don't forget to come to the library to get a fresh stack of books

we're going to work ourselves back to good 'reading fitness' over the next eight weeks. come and join us.

It's not everyday we get visitors from out of town and certainly not everyday we get a local Vermont celebrity in the library. A delight to welcome Joel Najman of VPR's My Place and his wife Betsey Lawrence into the library.
