Deron Hines 4 Chelsea. D2 Chelsea built me — now I’m ready to lead.

Born and raised in Chelsea, I’m running for City Council District 2 to reconnect our community with local government, amplify your voices, and create opportunities for youth, families, and neighbors.

Saturday, I’m hosting Rachael Rollins in Chelsea — and I hope you’ll come through.

Elections like these give us a real opportunity to have a direct impact on our communities — Boston, Revere, Chelsea, and Winthrop — we are Suffolk County. September 1st is the deadline to vote in the Suffolk County DA primary, and before you do, come meet the candidate, ask questions, and hear her perspective directly from her.
I chose to support Rachael because her diversion program has supported clients and families I work with first hand, creating real alternative pathways for nonviolent minor offenses. She’s not afraid to hold the system accountable when it’s gotten it wrong, or push it to be better — she’s a systems pusher, and that matters to me.

There are historical reasons for the lack of trust between community and government in everywhere let a lone in Chelsea — and they are real. That history is exactly why conversations about housing and affordability carry so much weight. I wanted to honor that weight by doing the homework. I sat with developers here and in other communities, community organizations, and city officials. I went through feasibility studies, pro formas, and peer city comparisons. I explored every incentivized alternative available. My priority throughout was finding a balance between the integrity of this community and what can actually be done.

On the feasibility study — I understand the ask and I respect it. But I want to be honest. A study will tell us what the market can absorb. What it will not tell us is something different than what developers who have no ties to our community nor the policy or the ones who have a good standing relationship here, and do not gain anything from participating in these conversations already told us. Waiting for that confirmation means more time passing, the worsening of market conditions and the people this policy has the capacity to serve continuing to be displaced.

And that is the cliff that this policy can close. This policy does not have the capacity to solve all of Chelsea’s problems — but it can close the gap for the median Chelsea income earner — the city secretary, the custodian, the para-educator, the social worker, the police officer, the firefighter — who earns too much to qualify for affordable housing and too little to afford what is being built around us. Nobody throughout this conversation has specifically advocating for them. This policy can.
Balancing values and community integrity has been my priority in every room throughout this process. That is not changing.

(Full Speech) Last night was a full-circle moment for me.
✨I had the honor of returning to my alma mater, Framingham State, as the alumni guest speaker for the Intercultural Graduation Ceremony.

This moment feels especially meaningful because I not only participated in this ceremony as a student, but I also had the opportunity to MC the very first one.

Special thanks to Patricia Sanchez and the DICE Office for the invitation and for continuing to create spaces that celebrate culture, identity, and community. ❤️

Once a Ram, always a Ram. Congratulations to the Class of 2026! 🐏🎓

Una vez Ram, siempre Ram. ¡Felicidades a la Clase del 2026! 🐏🎓

Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend the Day of Observation at the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home alongside veterans, families, and community members. A meaningful reminder of the importance of remembering, honoring, and showing up for those who have served.
Thank you to the Executive Office of Veterans Services for the invitation, and to all of the speakers and .

The Soldiers’ Home is an important part of our district and our community.
Based on recent conversations around the redevelopment, the plan is for current veteran residents to remain, and for future veteran applicants to receive priority for new units.
Our veterans deserve stability, respect, and to remain at the center of every step in this process.

I want to be clear—I support development that strengthens our community—I’m not against growth. But I am concerned about what happens when we start rolling back the very protections that help keep people rooted here.

For me, this isn’t about being for or against development. It’s about how that development shows up, who it’s accountable to, and whether it reflects the needs of the community as a whole. Growth should be inclusive, thoughtful, and responsible—something that builds on what’s already here rather than quietly leaving people behind.

We can move forward without losing sight of that.

Over the weekend I had an amazing time at a beautiful showing at Teatro Chelsea, written and directed by Armando Rivera. Thank you so much for the invite! Featuring an all–Puerto Rican cast, the play is a powerful tribute to Puerto Rican pride, culture, and history—so much of which is often overlooked or untaught. I highly recommend attending; this upcoming week is the final showing of The Beautiful Land I Seek. Please, please go check it out.
