Chenoa Police Department announces FFY26 enforcement results

(Chenoa, IL) – The Chenoa Police Department today released the results of its enhanced traffic enforcement efforts conducted through the Federal Fiscal Year 2026 Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program. These efforts, carried out between Oct. 1, 2025, and Sept. 30, 2026, were designed to reduce crashes and save lives on Illinois roadways.
During the STEP enforcement period, Chenoa Police Officers issued a total of (934) citations and made (44) arrests. The breakdown includes:

• (690) speeding citations: includes 124 misdemeanor violations
• (16) occupant restraint citations
• (56) electronic device use citations
• ( 8 ) DUI arrests
• (128) other traffic citations
• (32) traffic arrests
• (1) criminal drug arrest
• (3) wanted fugitive arrests
• (1) missing persons located

These efforts were part of high-visibility traffic safety campaigns such as “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Click It or Ticket,” “Drive High. Get a DUI,” and “Drop It and Drive.” By focusing on the most dangerous driving behaviors – including impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and failure to wear seat belts – Chenoa Police Officers worked to keep roadways safe and prevent serious crashes.

“The goal of this enforcement was to make our roads safer for everyone,” Chief Travis Cornwall. “By targeting the leading causes of crashes, we aimed to save lives and send a clear message that unsafe driving will not be tolerated.”

The STEP grant was funded with federal highway safety funds and administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of a statewide effort to improve traffic safety and reduce fatalities.

Hey Chenoa Coffee drinker....

If you were on your way to work today and had a nice mug of coffee in your Stanley, but it wasn't there when you got to your destination...I think our officer found it. Also, it appears virtually undamaged, and the coffee is still inside if you want it.

It was found on Veto St. right across Route 24 from the Chenoa Fitness Center. If it is yours, you can come to City Hall and describe it and we can return it to you.

Chenoa Police Department joins statewide Labor Day traffic safety effort
focused on impaired, distracted and unsafe driving

Chenoa, IL – The Chenoa Police Department is proud to be one of over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns this Labor Day. From Aug. 14 through the early morning hours of Sept. 8, officers will be out in force, focused on stopping impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving behaviors.

Driving under the influence — whether it’s alcohol, cannabis or any other impairing drug — is not just risky, it’s illegal. Chenoa Police Officers will be patrolling with zero tolerance for impaired driving, because our goal is to protect the people of our community.

Officers will also be enforcing seat belt laws as part of the “Click It or Ticket” initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle — front seat or back — should be properly buckled, every trip.

In addition to alcohol, officers will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by cannabis and other drugs. Messages like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” are part of a statewide education and enforcement effort aimed at saving lives.

We want our community to enjoy the holiday weekend safely and responsibly. Plan ahead, use a designated driver, and never get behind the wheel impaired. These decisions save lives.

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which administers the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns with federal highway safety funds. The initiative is reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign running across radio, TV and digital platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.
