RIDOH is alerting the public that a skunk in the Blackinton Drive area of Glocester tested positive for rabies this week. A dog that had an exposure to this skunk was treated for rabies. There were no known human exposures to this skunk. Read today's press release for more information and prevention steps: health.ri.gov/press-releases/skunk-glocester-tests-positive-rabies

Rabies is a fatal disease if it is not treated before the onset of symptoms. Anyone who may have had direct contact with a skunk in this area should immediately call RIDOH's Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology at 401-222-2577 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 401-276-8046 after hours) so a nurse can assess your exposure and determine if you should receive treatment. If you think your pet may have come in contact with this skunk, call RIDOH, your local Animal Control Officer, and your pet's veterinarian.

🚔 Fill-A-Cruiser Food Drive! 🧃

Join us on Saturday, November 7th from 9AM–12PM at Dino’s as we work to fill our cruisers with non-perishable food items to benefit the Glocester Food Pantry.

All non-perishable food items are appreciated, but there’s a high priority need for:

🦃 Thanksgiving sides (they are all set on stuffing but need everything else)
🍇 Cranberry sauce
🍝 Chef Boyardee
🐟 Tuna
🥗 Salad dressing, oil & vinegar
🍚 Knorr sides
🍲 Hamburger Helper

Can’t make it that day? No problem! We’re collecting donations here at the Glocester Police Department. Drop off your items at anytime. Every little bit helps!

Thanks to a generous donation from the 100 Club of Rhode Island, we are excited to announce that the Glocester Police Department will be establishing its very own Honor Guard!

Our Honor Guard will have the important responsibility of honoring fallen officers, participating in memorial services, funerals, parades, and other significant community and department events. It will allow us to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, recognize the service of our fellow officers, and carry on the traditions that are such an important part of law enforcement.

We are incredibly grateful to the 100 Club of Rhode Island for their generosity and support in helping make this possible. Their contribution allows us to take this meaningful step forward and build something that will serve our department and community for years to come.

Thank you for continuing to support those who serve and protect. We look forward to sharing more as our Glocester Police Honor Guard takes shape!

The Glocester Police Department would like to remind residents that free child car seat safety checks will be available on Saturday, October 24, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Harmony Fire Department.

Stop by to have your child’s car seat inspected and receive assistance with proper installation to help ensure your little ones are riding safely.

With Halloween right around the corner, we’re reminding everyone to stay alert, slow down, and help keep our community safe!

This weekend, the Glocester Police Department will be teaming up with the Rhode Island State Police to help ensure children and families can safely cross the street, especially during Trick-or-Treat on Main Street. 🎃👻

Officers will be actively enforcing pedestrian safety laws, including crosswalk laws, to help protect our community members.

After you visit the Glocester Scarecrow Festival, come on down to Exeter for the Public Safety Trunk or Treat! We’ll be joining our friends from public safety agencies across Rhode Island on today, October 17th from 5–7 PM at the Metcalf Elementary School parking lot, located at 30 Nooseneck Hill Road in Exeter for a night full of costumes, candy, decorated emergency vehicles, and plenty of Halloween fun! 🚓🍬🎃

Come say hello, check out all the awesome decorated vehicles, and of course, grab some candy!

Make sure to stop by the Town Hall Lawn during today’s Scarecrow Festival to meet K9 Garry and a few K9s from other police departments!

There will also be a live K9 Demonstration happening between 12 PM–2 PM! Come watch these working dogs show off their skills and learn more about the important work our police K9s do every day!

While you’re there, grab a jar (or two!) of Garry’s jam to help support the Glocester PD K9 Program!

Bring the family, meet some amazing four-legged officers, and enjoy a great day at the festival!
