đźš’ CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY đźš’
During Fire prevention week, Cherokee Fire & Rescue proudly joins fire departments across the nation in promoting the years theme, “charge into fire safety.” This campaign focuses on the growing fire hazards associated with lithium-ion batteries and the increasing number of rechargeable devices used in our homes, workplaces, and vehicles.
As technology continues to advance, items such as cell phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, e-scooters, and battery powered equipment have become a part of everyday life. While these devices offer convenience, they can also pose significant fire risks if they are damaged, improperly charged, or used with incompatible charging equipment.
Cherokee Fire & Rescue is committed to educating our community about the importance of safe charging practices. Residents are encouraged to use manufacturer-approved charging devices, avoid overcharging batteries, keep charging areas free of combustible materials, and never charge devices on beds, couches, or other soft surfaces. Damaged batteries should be removed from service immediately and disposed of according to local guidelines.
Throughout Fire prevention week, Cherokee Fire & Rescue personnel will engage with schools, community groups, businesses, and families to share fire safety information, demonstrate safe practices, and reinforce the importance of smoke alarms, home escape planning, and fire prevention awareness. Public education remains one of the most effective tools for reducing preventable fires and protecting lives.
By working together, we can help ensure that every home and workplace remains safe from fire hazards. Cherokee Fire & Rescue encourages everyone to “charge into fire safety” by taking simple steps today that can prevent emergencies tomorrow. Our mission remains the protection of lives, property, and the rich heritage of the Qualla boundary through proactive fire prevention, public education, and exceptional emergency services.
