🍂 Fall Fun & Community Education!

Cherokee Tribal EMS would like to thank Age Link for inviting us to participate in their First Annual Fall Festival!

CTEMS brought along a fun activity for the little ones, while the older children had the opportunity to learn a lifesaving skill with a quick, hands-on CPR lesson. They practiced chest compressions on our Brayden CPR manikin, which provides a visual demonstration of blood flow and oxygen delivery to the brain when effective chest compressions are performed. ❤️

Paramedic Vanessa Tiger and Assistant EMS Chief Alicia Lambert were happy to volunteer their evening to spend time with the children, share a little EMS education, and support one of our local childcare centers.

We are always grateful for opportunities like this that allow us to connect with our community and introduce children to lifesaving skills in a fun and comfortable environment.

Thank you, Age Link, for having us, and congratulations on your First Annual Fall Festival! 🍁

Congratulations, Lieutenant Melissa Taylor! 🎉

Cherokee Tribal EMS would like to congratulate Lieutenant Melissa Taylor on successfully completing the North Carolina EMS Officer – Field Training Officer (FTO) Program at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.

The FTO program helps prepare EMS leaders to train, mentor, evaluate, and support personnel as they grow within the profession. Strong field training is an important part of developing confident providers and maintaining a high standard of care within our organization.

We are proud to have Lieutenant Taylor representing Cherokee Tribal EMS alongside EMS professionals from across Western North Carolina and beyond. Congratulations, Melissa, on this accomplishment and your continued commitment to leadership and professional growth!

Way to represent CTEMS! 🚑

A Meal Made for Our Crews 🚑🚒

Working 24-hour shifts means our “workday” looks a little different. Calls don’t stop for lunch, and there’s rarely a traditional break where everyone can sit down together. That can make events like an Employee Appreciation Meal a little more challenging for EMS and Fire—but this year, they brought the meal to us!

Over the course of four days, B & Al’s of Sylva brought the restaurant right to the EMS base, making sure all four Cherokee Tribal EMS shifts and all three Cherokee Fire Department shifts had an opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal.

And they definitely fed us well! We were treated to steaks, a baked potato bar, salad, and cheesecake. 🥩🥔🍰

More than the great food, we appreciated the opportunity to slow down between calls, sit around the table, and fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Fire. In public safety, those moments together mean a lot.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped plan, coordinate, prepare, and serve our Employee Appreciation Meal, and to B & Al’s for working around our unique schedules to make sure no shift was left out. We are grateful for the meal, the fellowship, and most of all, the reminder that the work our crews do each day is appreciated.

Thank you for taking care of those who spend their days taking care of others. ❤️

Supporting Safety at Cherokee Central Schools

Cherokee Tribal EMS recently delivered 8 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to Cherokee Central Schools, helping increase access to lifesaving equipment throughout the school campus.

Of those eight AEDs, three are housed in weatherproof cases, allowing them to be placed where they can remain accessible for outdoor sporting events and other school activities. 🏈⚾🥎🏃‍♀️

Having an AED nearby during a sudden cardiac emergency can make a critical difference. These additional units will help provide coverage not only for our students and staff during the school day, but also for athletes, families, coaches, and community members attending sporting events.

Cherokee Tribal EMS is proud to continue working to improve access to lifesaving equipment throughout our community. ❤️🚑

8 new AEDs. More coverage. A safer school community.

Last night, members of C and D Shift had the opportunity to spend some time together outside of the ambulances and attend Unto These Hills Outdoor Drama.

One of the best ways we can serve our community is by continuing to learn about and understand the history, culture, and traditions of the Cherokee people and the community we are privileged to serve.

Opportunities like this are also about more than education. They give our crews a chance to step away from running calls, spend time together, share some laughs, and strengthen the relationships that are so important in EMS. The bonds we build outside of work help make us a stronger team when it matters most.

We are thankful for the opportunity to experience a story that has been shared with generations and to support one of our community's longstanding traditions.

Great night, great company, and a little crew bonding for C & D Shift! 🚑
