🚒 WELCOME HOME, ENGINE 7! 🚒

This morning, members of Chesapeake Firehouse 7 gathered for a traditional push-in ceremony to officially welcome our newest fire apparatus, Engine 7, into service!

The new Engine 7 is a 2026 Pierce Velocity, equipped with a 1,500 gpm pump and a 2,000 gallon water tank, providing firefighters with the equipment and capabilities needed to protect the rural community of Southern Chesapeake.

The push-in ceremony is a time-honored fire service tradition dating back to the days of horse-drawn fire apparatus, when firefighters had to manually push their equipment back into the firehouse after returning from a call.

Today, that tradition continues as a symbol of pride, teamwork, and the beginning of a new chapter in service to our community.

We are proud to welcome Engine 7 to the CFD fleet and look forward to the many years of service it will provide to the citizens of Chesapeake!

🚒🔥 Welcome home, Engine 7!

🚒🔥 READY, SET, GET FIRE SAFE! 🔥🚒

We’re kicking off the school year with fire safety education!

Our Ready, Set, Get Fire Safe! program made its first stop of the school year at Greenbrier Intermediate School, where third-grade students rotated through several interactive stations designed to teach important fire safety lessons.

Through hands-on activities and engaging discussions, students learned valuable skills to help keep themselves and their families safe.

A big THANK YOU to the students and staff at Greenbrier Intermediate for their enthusiasm and for making it such a great day of learning!

Building a fire-safe community starts with our youngest citizens! 🚒❤️

🐾 Remembering K9 Cinco , A Beloved Member of Our CFD Family

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of one of the Chesapeake Fire Department's most beloved members, K9 Cinco.

Yesterday, Cinco experienced a sudden medical emergency while working alongside his handler, Master Deputy Fire Marshal Whit Gibbs. A veterinary examination revealed significant internal bleeding, leaving no opportunity for recovery. Cinco spent one final evening at home with Whit and his family, surrounded by love.

This morning, Cinco received a police motorcycle es**rt to Edinburgh Animal Hospital, where he was peacefully laid to rest, surrounded by loved ones. Members of our CFD family gathered to honor Cinco and support Whit.

Sworn into the department on December 12, 2019, Cinco became our first Accelerant Detection K9. As part of the ATF K9 program, Cinco and Whit assisted fire departments throughout the region with fire investigations.

While his investigative abilities were important, they represent only a small portion of his impact on our community.

Cinco was perhaps best known as a public education and fire safety ambassador. Whether visiting schools or attending community events, he had a remarkable ability to connect with people, especially children. Cinco was happiest when surrounded by kids, receiving attention and bringing smiles to their faces. He helped us connect with our community in ways few of us ever could.

Cinco was more than a working dog. He was a loyal partner, trusted companion, and cherished member of our CFD family. Our hearts are with Whit and his family.

We thank the Chesapeake Police Department and Chesapeake Sheriff's Office for Cinco's dignified es**rt, for their compassion, and everyone who gathered to honor him.

Cinco's legacy extends far beyond the fires he helped investigate. His impact lives on in the countless smiles, friendships, and memories he created.

Rest easy, Cinco. Thank you for your faithful service, unconditional love, and the joy you brought to us all. 🐾

Today Miss Zinnie went on her She interrupted their work and used that nose to take the firefighters for a walk, and then another walk…..they were all enjoying the sunshine. She is a shy girl, but as you can see, she made them use their patience. She takes a few minutes to warm up and she is forever friend after that. She is a great dog, likes to ride in the car, and listens well. She hasn’t napped all day, so I hope she had a great day with us! Thank you Chesapeake Animal Services for letting us take her on an adventure!
