October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a good reminder to make your health a priority. 💗 Staying up to date on recommended screenings and talking with your healthcare provider about breast health are important steps toward early detection.

Take a moment to check in with yourself and remind the women in your life to do the same!

On October 7, 1776, the Virginia General Assembly first met as the legislature of an independent Commonwealth. On October 7, 2026, 250 years later, members returned to the historic Capitol in Colonial Williamsburg for a ceremonial session commemorating this milestone.

The House of Burgesses once met in these same halls, helping lay the foundations of representative government in Virginia and our nation.

It was an honor to celebrate this day with my colleagues and reflect on where we’ve been, how far we’ve come, and what’s still ahead.

“I have sat in a courtroom and watched a man petition the Circuit Court to have his voting rights restored. The judge had to tell him that wasn’t the process. There was nothing she could do for him.”

I’ve seen firsthand how confusing and inconsistent the current process can be. That’s why I’m voting YES on Question 3 to protect the right to vote in Virginia. I wrote more about it here.

The amendment would protect the right to vote for every eligible voter, no matter which party is in power, Del. Kacey Carnegie writes in a guest column.

We joined the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office for the 4th Annual Senior Expo at King’s Fork High School! Events like this give seniors a chance to connect with local organizations, learn about available resources, and spend time with others in their community. Our older adults have given so much to Suffolk, and making sure they have the resources and support they need is important.

Thank you to the Virginia Farm Bureau for an excellent Chesapeake Farm Tour! 🌽 We toured the Fentress Giving Gardening, a church-supported garden that grows fresh food for local charities, and then headed to McPherson Farms to see corn harvest up close and even ride along in a combine.

It is always good to learn more about the farmers, volunteers, and hard work that helps put food on our tables and support people right here in our community.

Happy 50th BeefFest, Deep Creek Ruritan Club! We had a great time catching up with friends and neighbors, enjoying the live music and, of course, some seriously good food. Thanks for another fun night and a great Chesapeake tradition! See you next year!
