Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Navy! We are proud to be home to the world's largest naval base, and we appreciate the dedication of our incredible military members!

Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Navy! ⚓🇺🇸

For 251 years, the U.S. Navy has played a vital role in protecting our nation and shaping our maritime history.

At Nauticus, we're proud to help bring that history to life through engaging exhibits, hands-on learning, and the iconic Battleship Wisconsin. From exploring our Navy exhibit to walking the decks of a historic battleship, we strive to connect visitors of all ages with the stories, sacrifices, and achievements of those who have served.

Today, we celebrate the Navy's incredible legacy and the Sailors who continue to carry it forward. Happy Birthday, U.S. Navy! 💙

Regional Housing Assessment Advisory Committee Holds Kickoff Meeting!

Yesterday, the HRPDC convened the first meeting of the Regional Housing Assessment Advisory Committee, bringing together housing industry experts, local government representatives, housing authority leaders, lenders, employers, nonprofit partners, academics, and other key stakeholders from across Hampton Roads.

During the meeting, consultants HR&A Advisors, Inc. shared initial findings and data collected to date, generating thoughtful discussion and valuable input from committee members. Their feedback will help guide the next phase of this important regional study.

The Regional Housing Assessment is a first-of-its-kind effort examining housing needs across all 17 localities in Hampton Roads. The study is designed to better understand how housing connects to regional economic development, workforce growth, transportation and commuting patterns, and climate-related considerations. The goal is to identify challenges, opportunities, and practical solutions that help ensure the region remains a vibrant place to live, work, and invest.

Thank you to our Advisory Committee members for their engagement and commitment to shaping the future of housing in our region. Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to participate through public surveys and community engagement activities!

Understanding where Hampton Roads is today helps us make better decisions about where our region goes next.

A few familiar faces from our HRPDC staff joined business, government, and community leaders yesterday for the 2026 State of the Region, presented by the Hampton Roads Chamber and featuring research and analysis from Old Dominion University’s Dragas Center for Economic Analysis and Policy.

The discussion offered a wide-ranging look at the forces shaping Hampton Roads, from the industries and infrastructure that drive our economy to the housing, education, and cultural assets that influence our quality of life. Together, the data provided plenty to think about as our region plans for continued growth, change, and opportunity.

If you missed it, you can still catch Friday’s event in Newport News: https://business.virginiapeninsulachamber.com/events/details/2026-state-of-the-region-hampton-roads-11958
