🔋☀️ Celebrating Massachusetts STEM Week at Hoosac Valley!

STEM learning is happening every day in our classrooms, and our students are building, testing, and applying their knowledge in exciting ways!

In our 8th-grade PLTW Engineering Gateway class, Bentley Zieminski, Bradley Kruszyna, Alexyss Gancarz, Hadley Crouse, Re*****on Pytko, and Kenzy Cannava are building and testing a photovoltaic circuit, exploring how technology can harness solar energy to produce electricity.

Through hands-on engineering challenges like this, students develop problem-solving skills, learn through experimentation, and see how classroom concepts connect to the world around them.

While we’re highlighting STEM this week, this kind of learning happens every day in our classrooms at Hoosac Valley! Our students regularly apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts through hands-on activities, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving.

In Physics, Alex Whitney, Summer Rose Bush, Ashley Mott, Emily Suriner, Andrew Mach, and TJ Kulzer are working together to solve a kinematics problem, applying mathematical reasoning and physics concepts to better understand motion.

From engineering experiments to physics problem-solving, our students are building critical thinking and analytical skills that extend well beyond the classroom.

We’re celebrating Massachusetts STEM Week with STEM activities happening every day, all day at Hoosac Valley! Our students are putting science, technology, engineering, and math into action through hands-on learning and real-world problem-solving.

In our Principles of Engineering class, Tyler Hakes, Carson Durant, Brogan Larabee, Za'Qare Ryan, and Michael Thayer are conducting an experiment to investigate how the angle of an inclined ramp affects the amount of work required to move a load. Through experimentation, observation, and analysis, these students are exploring engineering concepts in action!

We’re proud to see our students asking questions, testing ideas, and building the skills they’ll use to solve tomorrow’s challenges.

🗣️ Student Voice. Student Leadership. Real Impact.

At Hoosac Valley, we believe students should have a voice in shaping their school community — and our Student Adult Advisory Board (SAAB) is making that happen!

With approximately 70 student members, SAAB is empowering students to collaborate with school administrators, advocate for change, develop new ideas, and help shape the school experience for their peers. From bringing back the peer mentorship program to planning schoolwide celebrations and advocating for new opportunities, these students are making a meaningful difference.

Just as importantly, they’re building confidence, leadership skills, and a stronger sense of community while learning that their voices matter and they have the power to create positive change.

👏 Congratulations to our students and the staff who support this important work! We’re proud to see our students taking ownership of their school and helping make Hoosac Valley an even better place to learn and grow.
