πŸ”₯πŸš’ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: DAY 7 β€” PUT IT ALL TOGETHER! πŸš’πŸ”₯

And just like that, we’ve reached the final day of Fire Prevention Week!

All week long, we’ve shared simple fire safety tips to help keep you, your family, and our community safe. But fire prevention isn’t just for one weekβ€”it’s something we should practice all year long.

🏠 Before we wrap up, ask yourself:
πŸ”‹ Are we charging our devices safely?
🚨 Have we tested our smoke alarms?
πŸƒ Do we have a home escape plan?
🍳 Are we practicing safe cooking habits?
πŸ”₯ Are we using our heating equipment safely?
πŸ“ Does everyone know where to meet outside?

Fire prevention starts at home, and small steps can make a BIG difference.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who followed along with us this week! We hope you learned something that you can take home and put into practice.

πŸš’ From all of us at Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department, thank you for helping us make our community a safer place.

Stay safe. Stay prepared. And rememberβ€”fire safety is a year-round commitment! πŸ”₯

πŸ”₯🏠 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: DAY 6 β€” HEATING YOUR HOME SAFELY! 🏠πŸ”₯

As the weather gets cooler, many of us start using space heaters, fireplaces, wood stoves, and other heating equipment. Staying warm is importantβ€”but staying safe is even more important!

πŸš’ Today’s Fire Safety Tips:
βœ… Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from space heaters, fireplaces, and other heating equipment.
βœ… Use heating equipment that is approved and in good condition.
βœ… Never leave a space heater unattended or running while you are away.
βœ… Have fireplaces and wood stoves properly inspected and maintained, and make sure chimneys are cleaned regularly.
βœ… Make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and test them regularly.

⚠️ Remember: If you're using a space heater, fireplace, or wood stove this fall and winter, take a few extra seconds to make sure it's being used safely.

πŸ”₯ Stay warm. Stay safe.

πŸ‘€ Stay tuned tomorrow for Day 7 β€” our final Fire Prevention Week safety tip!

πŸ”₯🍳 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: DAY 5 β€” KITCHEN FIRE SAFETY! 🍳πŸ”₯

The kitchen is one of the most common places for a home fire to start and many cooking fires can be prevented with a few simple habits.

πŸš’ Today’s Fire Safety Tips:
πŸ‘€ Stay in the kitchen while cooking and never leave food unattended.
πŸ”₯ Keep towels, paper products, oven mitts, and other things that can burn away from the stove.
🧯 If a small grease fire starts in a pan, slide a lid over it, turn off the heat, and leave it covered. Never use water on a grease fire!
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the cooking area.
πŸ“ž If a fire gets out of control, GET OUT, STAY OUT, and CALL 911!

πŸ”₯ A few extra seconds of attention in the kitchen can make a BIG difference.

πŸ‘€ Stay tuned tomorrow for Day 6 of our Fire Prevention Week safety tips!

πŸš’ πŸ”₯ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: DAY 4 β€” HAVE A HOME ESCAPE PLAN! πŸš’ πŸ”₯
When a fire starts, every second counts. Having a plan before an emergency happens can help your family get out quickly and safely.

🏠 Today's Fire Safety Tips:
βœ… Know at least two ways out of every room when possible.
βœ… Make sure everyone in your home knows the escape plan.
βœ… Choose a safe meeting place outsideβ€”like a tree, mailbox, or neighbor’s house.
βœ… Practice your escape plan with the whole family.
βœ… Get out and stay out! Never go back inside for people, pets, or belongings.

🚨 When your smoke alarm sounds, GET OUT, STAY OUT, and CALL 911!

Take a few minutes tonight to talk with your family: Do you know how you would get out?

πŸ‘€ Stay tuned tomorrow for Day 5 of our Fire Prevention Week safety tips!

🚨πŸ”₯ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: DAY 3 β€” SMOKE ALARM SAFETY! πŸ”₯🚨

A working smoke alarm can give you and your family the early warning you need to GET OUT when there is a fire.

πŸš’ Today's Fire Safety Tips:

βœ… Test your smoke alarms at least once a month.
βœ… Replace batteries at least once a year, or when you hear the low-battery chirp.
βœ… Make sure smoke alarms are installed on every level of your home, inside bedrooms, and outside sleeping areas.
βœ… Replace smoke alarms every 10 years or according to the manufacturer's instructions.
βœ… Make sure everyone in your home can hear the alarm when it sounds.

πŸ”₯ Remember: When the smoke alarm sounds, GET OUT, STAY OUT, and CALL 911!

Take a few minutes today to test your smoke alarms. It could make all the difference.

πŸ”‹πŸ”₯ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: DAY 2 β€” CHARGING SAFETY! πŸ”₯πŸ”‹

Where you charge matters! Did you know that rechargeable batteries are found in many everyday devices, including phones, tablets, power tools, and e-bikes? When used or charged improperly, they can overheat and cause fires.

πŸš’ Today’s Fire Safety Tips:

βœ… Use the charger recommended by the manufacturer.
βœ… Charge devices on a hard, flat surfaceβ€”not on beds, pillows, or couches.
βœ… Keep charging devices away from anything that can burn.
βœ… Watch for damaged cords or batteries that swell or overheat.
βœ… Unplug devices when fully charged, when practical, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

⚠️ Remember: If a battery is smoking, hissing, or on fire, stay away, get outside, and call 911.

Stay tuned tomorrow for another fire safety tip from Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department!
