a Saturday sewing series with Shell + Bee

November 7, 14, & 28 @ 10am to 11am

Join Shell + Bee Sewing Instructor, Abby as teaches the basics + beyond basics of hand sewing and machine sewing. Students will come away with finished projects to take home, plus learn an important skill! Students can sign up for 1 date or all 3 dates. Each class will focus on something new or expand on past techniques.

** Open to ages 9-18 **

The saga of the Bald Eagle, the symbol of our country, is one of reverence, near-extinction and successful conservation. The ongoing story of their recovery as a species and CT’s healthy eagle population is a comeback story worth noting. Join Ginny Apple, a Master Wildlife Conservationist with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, for a talk about this awe-inspiring bird of prey, its history, lore and recovery.

A native Texan, Ginny Apple was one of the first full-time women sportswriters in the country, who left the field mid-career to pursue a path in communications/public relations. Through the years she has hiked, climbed, kayaked, skied and poked her way through the outdoors and developed a passion for all things natural. A move to the middle of the woods in Barkhamsted 21 years ago brought her into an environment filled with bears and other wildlife.

This class features engaging demonstrations, where students can witness the creation of zombie makeups, torn throat wounds, and realistic burns. These interactive sessions empower students to elevate their Halloween makeup game and delve into the fascinating world of Hollywood-style transformations.

Chester Public Library Presents: SPOOKY WRITING CONTEST!

Beginning Monday, September 14th, we will be accepting submissions for a Spooky Writing Contest!

Submissions must:
* be set in Connecticut
* Be a maximum of 2,750 words
* Must be an Original piece
* No excessive language or gore
* NO AI
* Authors must live in the town in which they are submitting their story

Use the QR code or follow the link to submit your story! Entries will be accepted through Friday, October 16th (https://forms.gle/w74yUKgBXdmXtgTi9)

The top winners in each age category (children, teen, and adult) will be featured in the state-wide collection of SPOOKY CT Volume 2!

This contest has been available at other CT libraries in previous years. Chester is excited to participate this year and see what our patrons come up with!

Chester Public Library is now a Laptop ConneCT Library! Laptop ConneCT lets eligible Connecticut residents borrow a laptop and accessories for long-term use.

Chester residents can apply for a laptop if you:
- are at least 18 years old
- have a valid Chester Public Library card (*we can help you sign up!)
- are enrolled in one of the following assistance programs: SNAP, CEAP, LIHEAP, Medicare, or HUSKY Health
