Chester Township Fire Rescue was excited to participate in West Geauga Middle School’s Career Day, meeting with 8th-grade students across three separate sessions.

We had a great turnout and lots of interest from students, along with some excellent questions about careers in the fire service! From responding to emergencies and providing lifesaving medical care to specialized rescue operations and the training required to become a firefighter/paramedic, the students were eager to learn what it takes to serve their community.

We appreciate the opportunity to connect with these students, share our experiences, and introduce them to the many career opportunities available in the fire service.

A big thank-you to West Geauga Middle School for inviting us to be part of this event and helping students explore their future career paths!

Chester Township Fire Rescue responded on mutual aid to this fire last night. This was one of two fires our crews assisted with within just a few hours of each other. We extend our sincere condolences to all those affected by these incidents and keep them in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Chester Township Fire Rescue extends our sincere condolences to the Middlefield Fire Department, as well as the family and friends of retired Chief Bill Reed, on his passing.

Our thoughts are with all who are mourning this loss during this difficult time.

May Chief Reed rest in peace, and may his years of dedicated service never be forgotten.

There are Leaders, Heroes, and Legends, Chief Reed was all three. We were lucky enough to Celebrate his retirement and unbelievable devotion to the Middlefield Fire Department for nearly 40 years just last week.

Today we mourn his loss. We are forever grateful for what Chief Reed represents! He was a proud and faithful leader who cared so deeply for the Men and Women of The Middlefield Fire Department and the people of his community. A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, and a prouder Father, Grandfather and Chief.

Chief Reed, your legacy will live on forever. We will take it from here boss!

🔥 Fire Prevention Week 2026 🔥

This week, Chester Township Fire Rescue joins fire departments across the country in recognizing Fire Prevention Week, a tradition that dates back more than 100 years.

Fire Prevention Week was first sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in 1922 and was established as a national observance by President Calvin Coolidge in 1925. It is observed each year during the week of October 9 in remembrance of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

While fire prevention has changed considerably over the years, the mission remains the same: educate our communities and prevent fires before they happen.

This year's theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower™.” With rechargeable lithium-ion batteries powering everything from phones and laptops to tools, toys, e-bikes and scooters, safe charging habits are more important than ever.

⚡ Use the charger designed for your device.
⚡ Charge on a hard, flat surface.
⚡ Unplug devices when they are fully charged.
⚡ If a battery becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks, smokes or smells strange, stop using it.

This Fire Prevention Week, use your charging superpower and help prevent a fire before it starts.

We had a busy day at Chester Township Fire Rescue! But not every busy day is spent running calls. Sometimes, it’s a day busy with training for those busy call days and spending time with the community we are proud to protect.

Today, some of our members joined our neighbors at Russell Township Fire Department for a great training led by two instructors from the Chicago Fire Department. Crews worked on adaptive extrication techniques along with critical patient care for people entrapped in their vehicles.

Later in the day, crews stopped by the township park to visit Jackson, who was celebrating his 2nd birthday and had a birthday wish to climb into our truck! 🎂🚒

We are happy to be invited to such a great training by our neighbors at Russell Township Fire Department and to share Jackson’s special day with him. Happy 2nd Birthday, Jackson! 🎉
