CPD patrol officer Cole Foster promoted to Corporal

It was with pleasure that Chesterton Police Chief Tim Richardson formally promoted patrol officer Cole Foster to Corporal at the Police Commissionโ€™s meeting Monday afternoon, Oct. 12.

โ€œAs you know, gentlemen,โ€ Richardson told the Police Commission, โ€œour promotion system combines four different components for an overall score. And due to the recent corporal vacancy, we did that at your guidance and we determined that Cole Foster will be promoted to the rank of corporal.โ€

Then Richardson read the certificate of promotion: โ€œThe Chesterton Police Department hereby announces that Cole Foster has been promoted to the rank of corporal, with great honor and appreciation for your commendable and dedicated service to the CPD, to Chesterton, and to the Duneland community.โ€

UPATE ON PROBATIONARY OFFICER MALLORY LEATHERS

In other business, Richardson updated the Police Commission on Probationary Officer Mallory Leathersโ€™ performance to date.

โ€œShe continues to do well,โ€ he noted. โ€œStill on the midnight shift. I think she has about two months left on probation and hopefully we should be ready to get her off probation in December or January. Sheโ€™s doing very well.โ€

UPDATE ON FORMER CPD DISPATCHERS

With the liquidation of the CPDโ€™sโ€”and Porter PDโ€™sโ€”dispatch function and its consolidation with the Porter County 911 Central Communications Center, effective Oct. 1, Richardson was relieved and glad to report that all four former full-time dispatchers employed by the CPD have secured new jobs.

โ€œWeโ€™re fortunate that all of our full-time dispatchers actually have received jobs,โ€ Richardson said. โ€œThere was one that was kind of late until last week but she did receive employment by another police department. So weโ€™re happy that all four full-time dispatchers found gainful employment. The last two held out till about the end of September and the town has awarded the qualifying employees their bonus pay as promised.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re happy that our employees hung out with us and stayed till the end because, to be successful, we needed them,โ€ Richardson added. โ€œAnd again, weโ€™re just overjoyed that they all found gainful employment past this.โ€

TWILIGHT HOLIDAY PARADE

Meanwhile, the Police Commission voted unanimously to approve a permit for the annual Twilight Holiday Parade at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, sponsored as always by the Duneland Chamber of Commerce.

As part of that vote, the Police Commission authorized Richardsonโ€”in consultation with the Town Council and the Chamberโ€”to set a bad-weather makeup date.

โ€œI appreciate that because there may be a snow day or rain day and weโ€™ll evaluate that at the proper time,โ€ Richardson replied. โ€œThank you.โ€
