Chetek Fire and Rescue

October is Fire Prevention Month. Recycling facilities, landfills, garbage trucks and other parts of the waste and recycling industry in Wisconsin are experiencing frequent and sometimes devastating fires. While it can be hard to determine the cause of each fire, studies have shown rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are often to blame. When damaged by equipment in waste trucks or facilities, these batteries can spark or produce enough heat to ignite surrounding materials. This photo shows the aftermath of recyclables catching fire in a Madison recycling truck. These fires put workers and firefighters at risk, in addition to causing millions of dollars in damage.

Here are some steps you can to help prevent fires like these:
– Never put batteries or electronics in your recycling bin or cart.
– Take rechargeable batteries to a recycling drop-off site, like a hardware store or local recycling center.
– Recycle your electronics through E-Cycle Wisconsin. Many sites accept electronics like laptops and cellphones for free. Find a site near you: https://wisconsindnr.shinyapps.io/EcycleCollectorSite/?language=2

Fire Prevention at Roselawn today! One of our favorite days of the year to spend time with the kiddos and teach them about what to do in the event of a fire and show them the trucks and tools!

NOTICE: We are conducting a joint training at the Chetek Hydroflites boat landing.

We are doing mock water search and dive missions with Bruce's Legacy, Barron County Sheriff's Department, Dunn County Sheriff's Office, and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. If you are on the lake in that area, just keep an eye out!

Ourselves, Vinny, and Skyelar have immense gratitude for the overwhelming support we’ve received.

We’ve been able to raise almost $8,000 to help the Hoffmans navigate what’s next. Luckily, they are set up with a great place to stay for now, we’re able to salvage much of their clothing, and are in good spirits. As far as items go, there isn’t much they need at the moment but we will let you know if they are looking for anything.

Thank you all so much!

Our thoughts are with our friends in Shell Lake.

With Heavy Hearts, We Remember.

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our own.

Our department has lost not only a firefighter, but a brother, a friend, and a dedicated member of the community. After nearly 8 years of service, Firefighter Brian Carlson leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and selflessness that will not be forgotten.

Throughout his years with our department, he gave his time, his energy, and his heart to serving the people of our community. Whether responding to an emergency, training alongside his brothers and sisters, or simply being there when someone needed help, he truly embodied what it means to serve.

His passing leaves an unimaginable void in our department and in the lives of all who knew him. We grieve alongside his family, friends, fellow firefighters, and everyone whose life he touched through his years of service.

Today, we honor his life and his commitment to others. We will carry his memory with us every time we answer the call, every time we put on the uniform, and every time we stand beside one another as brothers and sisters.

Our deepest condolences and unwavering support go out to his family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time.

Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.

🚒 Rest easy, brother. We have the watch from here.
