Tylynn Hall, Director of Fossil Fuel Development, and Brandi O’Brien, Nuclear and Critical Minerals Industry Coordinator, represented the Wyoming Energy Authority at the Wyoming Energy Future Symposium on October 22, hosted by the University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources.

This year’s theme, “Critical Minerals in Critical Energy Industries,” explored how Wyoming’s oil, gas and coal infrastructure can support mineral extraction—and how advanced nuclear power and growing demand from data centers are creating new needs for specialized materials.

Last week, John Jenks, Director of Energy Market Development for the Wyoming Energy Authority, represented Wyoming at the Fall 2026 Joint CREPC-WIRAB Meeting.

As part of the conference, John served as moderator for a featured discussion with the U.S. Department of Energy Deputy Assistant Secretary for Electricity Holly Rachel Smith, helping lead conversations on energy planning, permitting and regional coordination.

John's role at this week's meeting followed his recent appointment as Wyoming's representative to the Committee on Regional Electric Power Cooperation (CREPC), helping ensure Wyoming's perspective is represented in important regional energy conversations.

We're proud to see John representing Wyoming and helping facilitate important conversations about the future of energy across the West.

Yesterday, WEA Executive Director Rob Creager testified before the Joint Corporations Committee to update the committee on Wyoming’s Transmission Infrastructure Study.

Authorized by SF-102, the study will be completed in two phases. Phase 1 will examine the impacts of three load growth scenarios on Wyoming’s transmission system, while Phase 2 will provide a qualitative summary of utilities’ participation in electricity markets.

WEA is committed to completing this study in a timely manner and appreciates the Legislature’s continued commitment to ensuring Wyoming is prepared for future energy opportunities and infrastructure needs.

Earlier last month, the Wyoming Energy Authority hosted its first stakeholder workshop for the Wyoming Transmission Study, launched pursuant to SF 102. The virtual workshop introduced the project team, including consultant Energy Strategies and provided an overview of the study’s goals, approach and timeline.

Strong stakeholder participation and thoughtful discussion from across the state provided valuable input for the WEA team as the study continues. These conversations will help inform the evaluation of Wyoming’s transmission opportunities and challenges.

Three additional workshops are scheduled through the end of January and we look forward to continuing the dialogue.

To learn more about the Wyoming Transmission Study or upcoming workshops, contact John Jenks at [email protected].

On Tuesday, WEA’s Director of Energy Market Development, John Jenks, was a featured panelist at the California ISO 2026 Stakeholder Symposium in Sacramento. The annual event brings together utilities, regulators, state officials, energy producers and market participants from across the West to discuss regional electricity markets and grid reliability.

For Wyoming, these discussions have direct implications for electricity costs, access to markets for the state’s energy producers and future investment. As a broader Western regional energy market takes shape, Wyoming needs a seat at the table to advocate for reliable, affordable power and ensure its resources and economic interests are reflected in market decisions.

John joined industry leaders and energy experts for “Road to ROWE: Navigating the 2027 Transition,” exploring the opportunities and challenges of a more interconnected Western grid. His participation brought Wyoming’s perspective to a conversation that could shape the future of the state’s energy industry.

Coal innovation is advancing and Wyoming is helping lead the conversation.

This month, WEA Director of Fossil Fuel Development Tylynn Hall attended the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) Coal Center of Excellence Stakeholder Workshop in Morgantown, West Virginia. The workshop brought together researchers, industry leaders and government partners to explore emerging technologies that can make coal more reliable and more versatile for the future. Discussions focused on cutting-edge research across the coal value chain, including value-added carbon products, wastewater management and AI-driven maintenance.

Over the past decade, Wyoming’s mineral and energy economy has supported an average of 58,900 jobs annually, including more than 28,000 direct jobs statewide and an additional 1,500 construction jobs created by the development of various energy projects.

Wyoming leads the nation in energy workforce concentration, with mineral and energy jobs making up a share of employment five times the national average. These industries continue to drive economic growth, support Wyoming families and provide the energy that powers America.
