During Hispanic Heritage Month, it’s important to have honest conversations about the challenges that can affect safety, healing, and support within our communities.
In many Latino families, family loyalty runs deep. We’re often taught to protect our own, keep private matters within the family, and avoid bringing outside attention to personal struggles. That sense of loyalty and togetherness can be something truly beautiful—but sometimes, it can also make it difficult to speak up or seek help when someone is experiencing harm or abuse.
Breaking the silence doesn’t mean turning your back on your family. It means creating a safer environment where children can be protected, survivors can be heard, and no one feels like they have to carry their pain alone.
We can honor our culture and our families while also making space for difficult conversations. Everyone deserves to feel safe enough to speak, be believed, and receive support.
Awareness is where change begins. 🤎
