AVIATION TAKES CENTER STAGE IN CHEYENNE! 🇺🇸

A little history, a little horsepower, and a whole lot of aviation!

The skies over Cheyenne came alive during the Wyoming Aviation Festival on Aug. 16, 2026, as vintage military trainers and aerobatic aircraft put on an impressive aerial display at Cheyenne Regional Airport.

On the ground, the Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Airlift Wing showcased its C-130 Hercules, giving visitors an up-close look at one of the aircraft that helps support missions around the world.

From historic aircraft to modern military aviation, the festival brought aviation enthusiasts and the community together to celebrate the past and present of flight!

FROM THE ARCHIVES | 2019

Snow in the spring? Just another day in Wyoming.

In 2019, the Repair and Reclamation team worked through a spring snowstorm to flip a downed airframe on base.

Recovering an aircraft is no small task. It required careful planning, heavy equipment and a team that knew how to work together safely and deliberately. Add Wyoming's unpredictable spring weather, and the job became even more challenging.

But the mission did not wait for clear skies.

With hard hats on, heavy cable rigged and plenty of teamwork, the crew got the airframe turned over and the job done.

A look back at the Airmen who proved that sometimes mission readiness means getting your hands dirty, and a little snowy.

Hazmat suits, EOD teams and a C-130 Hercules on the flight line made for an interesting day on base.

Airmen from the 90th Missile Wing at F.E. Warren Air Force Base brought HYDRA FURY 2026 to the 153rd Airlift Wing on May 20 as part of a five-day technical exchange focused on nuclear weapon accident and incident response.

The training brought together EOD teams from across Air Force Global Strike Command alongside partners from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, FBI and Department of Energy.

The goal was straightforward: sharpen response procedures, strengthen coordination between agencies and keep critical skills current. In a real-world emergency, these teams would not be working independently. Exercises like HYDRA FURY gave them the opportunity to train together, understand each other's capabilities and build the coordination needed before an incident ever occurs.

For the 153rd, hosting the training also highlighted how Wyoming's military installations and federal partners work together to prepare for some of the nation's most complex response missions.

HARPENING SKILLS, STRENGTHENING READINESS!

Recognizing Wyoming Guard Accomplishments from over the summer. Precision, discipline and readiness were on full display at Camp Guernsey!

Members of the Wyoming National Guard's Small Arms Readiness and Training Section, including Master Sgt. William Corkins, put their marksmanship skills to the test during a close-range pistol shooting event at the Marksmanship Advisory Council (MAC) Region VI Combat Marksmanship Training Sustainment Exercise at Camp Guernsey, Wyoming, July 22, 2026.

The annual exercise brings together National Guard Soldiers from seven western states to strengthen combat marksmanship proficiency through challenging r***e and pistol events.

Beyond hitting targets, the training reinforces weapons proficiency, sharpens critical skills and builds the confidence needed to perform under pressure. Exercises like these help ensure National Guard Soldiers remain trained, proficient and ready to answer the call.

This past September 11 marked a special moment in Wyoming as we came together to honor the lives lost, reflect on the sacrifices made, and commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

On Sept. 11, 2026, members of the Wyoming National Guard gathered at the Wyoming Air National Guard Base in Cheyenne to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives.

The ceremony included an opening prayer by 1st Lt. Emily Simerson, 153rd Airlift Wing chaplain, and remarks from Maj. Gen. Gregory Porter, Wyoming's adjutant general, who reflected on his personal experiences during the attacks. Col. Bret Trippel, 153rd Airlift Wing commander, joined fellow Airmen in a moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives.

The day also served as a reminder of the Wyoming Air National Guard's remarkable role in the aftermath of 9/11. As civilian and military aircraft were grounded nationwide, the 153rd Airlift Wing became the first unit to resume flying, transporting critically needed blood donations across the western United States.

Their actions reflected the courage, service and unwavering commitment that continue to define the Wyoming National Guard.

As we reflect on that tragic day, we honor the victims, first responders, service members and families whose lives were forever changed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

BUILDING CONNECTIONS BEYOND BORDERS!

Building relationships and strengthening partnerships, one classroom at a time!

Wyoming Army National Guard Capt. Eric Hagele, commander of the 197th Public Affairs Detachment and a public affairs officer assigned to Kosovo Force (KFOR) Regional Command-East, joined fellow KFOR 37 public affairs personnel for a visit with students and staff at Future School in Gjilan, Kosovo, Sept. 29, 2026.

During the visit, Hagele shared U.S.-themed stickers with students as the incoming KFOR 37 team worked to continue the meaningful relationships established by previous KFOR rotations.

These interactions highlight the importance of community engagement, cultural exchange and the lasting connections built between U.S. service members and the people of Kosovo.

FROM THE ARCHIVES | 2015

Eight Hercs in the sky at once. Not something you saw every day.

In 2015, the 153rd Airlift Wing took to the Wyoming skies with an impressive eight-ship formation of C-130 Hercules aircraft.

Getting eight aircraft airborne and flying together took coordination, preparation and countless hours of work from Airmen across the wing. From maintainers and aircrews to the teams supporting operations on the ground, the formation showcased the teamwork and readiness behind every aircraft in the air.

The view from the ramp made all that preparation worth it.

A look back at eight Wyoming Hercs flying together over the Cowboy State.

STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS THROUGH COMMUNICATION

Wyoming Army National Guard Soldiers are making an impact overseas!

On Sept. 25, 2026, members of the Wyoming Army National Guard's 197th Public Affairs Detachment joined fellow National Guard personnel and Kosovo Police representatives for a public affairs professional development exchange at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo.

During the exchange, Sgt. Joseph Burns and Sgt. Rachael Tofflemeyer helped share valuable knowledge and techniques in messaging, media engagement, social media and mobile visual storytelling.

Alaska Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Marc Marmeto provided hands-on instruction in mobile photography and videography, while Florida Army National Guard Maj. Song Hong discussed the responsible use of artificial intelligence in public affairs.

Lt. Hagel and Sgt. 1st Class Rivas were also present, supporting the exchange and continued collaboration between Kosovo Force (KFOR) Regional Command-East and Kosovo Police.

These professional development opportunities strengthen international partnerships, promote information sharing and reinforce the importance of effective communication in multinational operations.

👏 Great work to our Wyoming Soldiers and their fellow service members representing the National Guard overseas!

COLUMBUS DAY & INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY!

Each October, Americans reflect on a history shaped by exploration, cultural exchange, conflict, perseverance and change.

Columbus Day commemorates Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas on Oct. 12, 1492. The federal observance was established to recognize the historical significance of the voyage and the generations of Italian Americans who helped shape the United States.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day provides an opportunity to recognize the Native peoples whose histories and cultures extend thousands of years before European arrival. In Wyoming, that history remains especially significant through the enduring heritage, service and contributions of Indigenous communities, including the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho.

Native Americans have also served with distinction in the U.S. Armed Forces across generations, carrying forward traditions of service while defending the nation at home and abroad.

Today offers an opportunity to study the full scope of our shared history, honor the people who shaped it and recognize the many cultures and experiences that continue to tell America’s story.
