Yesterday, we hosted our first Stop the Bleed class for the public. Based on injury, the body can suffer a fatal amount of blood loss in 2-5 minutes while the average EMS response time is 7-10 minutes. This makes severe blood loss the #1 cause of preventable death. This class teaches the ABCs of bleeding control:

A: Alert 911
B: Identify Bleeding
C: Compress the bleeding until it stops

All participants also received a free tourniquet from Chicago Ridge Emergency Management Agency that they were trained on how to use.
