On this day 135 years ago, Venerable Fr. Augustus Tolton arrived in Chicago and began the most fruitful phase of his ministry. A Missouri native, Fr. Tolton is the first recognizably black Catholic priest in the United States and is currently a candidate for being declared a saint. Read the story of Fr. Today, we’re highlighting Damani McClellan, who has been a dedicated part of the St. John de la Salle Catholic Academy community and is now proudly stepping into his first year as principal! His enthusiasm and dedication to the school’s mission are already making a positive impact.
Bob Vickman, Director of School Operations, shares: “Damani is an upbeat and caring leader who clearly believes in the mission of St. John de Lasalle. As a former teacher, Assistant Principal, and now Principal at St. John de Lasalle, he is truly dedicated to the community and clearly desires to serve its students and families. Almighty God, in the first days of your Church, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, your Son’s Apostles appointed seven men of good repute to assist them in the daily ministry, that they might devote themselves more fully to prayer and preaching of the word. By prayer and the laying on of hands they entrusted to these chosen men the ministry of serving at table.
